YO GEORGIANS! :)

When a 16 week old EE begins to assume the position low to the ground, butt up, wings sort of arched outward when I reach out to stroke her back does that mean she is close to laying for the first time? She just began this behavior.

Yes, that is squatting. it is a submissive act....meaning she is mature enough to mate....AND lay eggs!!!! So usually after they squat, it is 7 -10 days until eggs! That is very young for an EE! Mine were 27 - 32 weeks before they laid eggs! I have 2 more that are now 21 weeks old and will probably be waiting until next month! Post photos of eggs! Love to see what color egg everyone gets!

Thanks Soo egggcited This white EE (Flossie) is the girl I'm talking about. The other her same age (Bossy) is the lead hen in the house and is not showing these signs yet. She just watched in wonder when Flossie did this Saturday and Monday. Just in time to because I won an egg scale on a blog I go to and it came today :)

YO GEORGIANS Forum! Bernie56 tell us a little about your chickens and your coop set-up.
I am in Fairburn, near Hartsfield International Airport. I have EE's and Swedish Flower Hens. I have had chickens for most of my life, but I am loving this new breed! Beautiful, friendly, and great layers! I love the all the different colors, and the crests. The only issue that I've had with them so far is that some of the roosters tend to get aggressive, which I have never had with the Ameraucana/EE. I just have to cull those guys. Can't have the aggressive ones with my grandbabies around!

I am a newbie at having my own flocks. I only count a small bit if experience as a child running around all summer on my Aunt's and Uncles farms. I thought 16 was early that is why when I recognized her actions I had to ask. Who knows she could be an early bloomer. I am eager of course to find my first egg in the box and all is ready for that day (complete with baby blue Tweety Bird nest box curtains...no eye rolling now lol). Until then I am content in watching my brooder babies grow, trying to figure out who is a rooster among them and who is not. My coop feathered butts are happy and enjoying their days playing with their swinging cabbage ball etc. When chaos rains about me my animals are the peace and place to focus thoughts. I am looking forward to this coming season of chicken shows and gatherings to meet up with folks and gather ideas. :)
