YO GEORGIANS! :)

So, we think our goats are getting pregnant today. Very stinky, vocal and all that. Is there anything special I need to do now? We are new to goats. If it 'takes' we are looking at March 21. (Dwarf goats)
That's so funny. I just witnessed a breeding yesterday so at least one should be due in March. You can increase the protein by giving them alfalfa. They'll need a cdt shot if you vaccinate about 3 weeks before they are due. Other than that, watch and wait.

Yeah, busy. One more batch of Quail to process ASAP. But I set another bunch of eggs to boost my breeders for next year. SO, we'll be doing another round of Quail butchering around New Years.
@brucifer I think I told you I bought that Quail Plucker. It works great. I can scaled 2 at a time for 25 seconds and drop them in the plucker for 20-30 seconds and they come out pretty clean. Takes me 20 minutes to 2 quail from crate to cooler. A little bit longer that skinning but they look much more presentable. And the water squirter works pretty good. I just need a smaller, more flexible hose for it.

The Rabbit Tractor worked well first time out. I need to make the doors larger and move the feeders for easier access. I've got one litter that's 5 weeks old and 3 litters that are 3 weeks old. Looking to breed again at the end of the month.

We started a "for real" duck coop a few weeks ago. It's been slow going but I got the roof finished yesterday and most of the blocking placed in the walls. Hoping to get the siding put on tomorrow if it's not too cold. It's 8' x 16' and will be divided into 2 sections initially. One section will be subdivided again when we need room for grow-outs. We'll be keeping 2 breeds of ducks going forward.

I'm having difficulty uploading photos here. The ads keep refreshing and hogging all my bandwidth. Check out our Facebook page for lots of photos. https://www.facebook.com/LongLeafGeorgia/

So, since my ducks might not start laying until spring, I'm picking up a dozen hatching eggs this afternoon to raise for meat. I haven't hatched duck eggs before, so hopefully I get some to hatch. :-D Someday I'll do quail. My husband says no, but my mind says yes. Hehehe.

For some reason my little frizzle Mariah has decided to go broody today. She did not get back off the nest to go to sleep with the others. If I let her sit on eggs it will be pretty cold when they hatch. I am not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

I’ve got three hens sitting on eggs. A good mommy hen will keep them warm. If I have problems, there is always the brooder! Go for it!
