How is egg production for y'all's ducks in winter? Mine are 5 1/2 months now and no sign of any eggs. I am wondering if I will have to wait until spring? The descriptions for welsh harlequins said they could start laying between 4-6 months so probably just need a bit longer ... but they seem like they have been grown up for a long time now. lol!
Also, I don't have a drake but wondering if I should get one just so they will go further afield. They have a half acre paddock to wander in but stick to a 20x30ft space near the barn & their water tank. I can tell their little territory as there are zero ant hills where they forage. Wish we could have ducks all over the place to get rid of the ants!

I"ve got 4 Indian Runner girls and 2 of them are laying about everyday now. 3 of my girls are over 1 1/2 years old and 1 is only 6 months old. I've gottten a couple tiny eggs that I "assumed" where from her but there's no way to tell. My 3 old girls were born May 15th 2017 and didn't start laying until January 29th 2018 if that helps.

Hey all, I have a question. What do you do with your older chickens? It breaks my heart to get rid of them just because they are older! But, I add chicks every year to keep my egg business going so now that I have 100 chickens, I really need to do something with about 20-25 of them. Are any of you interested in some older chickens? The ones I am talking about were hatched around 2017 or so. There are some beautiful ones who still lay but not as much as the young ones. PM me if you are interested. Would love for them to just have a big place to grow old at.

The oldest hen I have is about 5 yrs. The others after a year or so I can sell to seniors who just want a few chickens to watch in there yard. There is a program for seniors that takes unwanted chickens and the seniors take care of them and use them for therapy. I'm not sure if there is an organization around here but there may be up your way. Call some of the senior retirement homes in your area.
