I disagree. I do think it is a Silver Laced Wyandotte, but I think it is a female. Males have a black neck band on the back of the neck....yours looks like it has too much white there. 1st photo is male.....see the solid black area right behind the neck? This one is female....no black area. (Neither bird is a good quality Silver Laced, though....very poor lacing)

on another note the rest are getting big enough to sex anyone good at sexing chicks ? i need help i have two ss two silkies and two French black copper marans

So sorry for your loss. It is so sad to lose a little baby. How old are your chicks? You probably could have sexed the SS at 2 days old. Post pictures.

Does anyone here ever go to the sale/auction in Pearson, Ga? I think I am going tomorrow to shop for some hens. Hubby says I shouldn't go because that means we will be coop building again and he said we were finished 2 coops ago!

Ummm, those would not be hawks. Hawks do not fly in groups and they don't circle. The only time you may see two together is a mom with a young or a mate. You are looking at Vultures. Vultures circle in search of something dead. They will not harm your live chickens.

The hawks in my neighborhood do circle. Thy make passes over my yard throughout the day. If they see me, they circle a few times & then move on. It is a group of 3 - I figure, a pair of mates and their chick. And they are hawks; I have seen them up close & personal perched in our yard. When they are down low, they are completely quiet. When they are up high, they call to each other. My son does a perfect hawk imitation. These are red-tailed hawks, aka chicken hawks, and according to the Audubon Society, circling is their typical flight pattern. Since they are really large, it is easy to mistake them for vultures at distance.

Hi, I am from SE Georgia. I am looking to get into raising a few hens for eggs and general fun/homesteading/trying my hand at livestock. I am looking for a couple of hens, preferably pullets, to start. In my perfect world, I would be able to buy one black australorp pullet and one barred rock pullet, however, I am practical and would consider any breed pullet that anyone in the vicinity of Savannah (less than 100 miles) has available for sale.

Or, if anyone could give me some regional sales advice, that would also be appreciated.

Welcome to BYC! Keep an eye on Craig's List if you are only wanting a couple of hens. I don't meet anyone - I go to their coop to check it out. Don't be afraid to pass either for whatever reason. I ask a ton of questions; the people who baby them like I do, answer all my questions happily. I have made some great friends thru chick ads on CL even when I didn't get their chickens.
Again, welcome! Chickens are so fun; I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
