YO GEORGIANS! :)

THANKS guys.. Got the light. They only had red left. It was like the bread shelf at the grocery store! LOLOL. I also got two new bags of shavings.

So now I just have to go home, clean my stall, clean the coop before I put down the new shavings, install heat light, empty waterer and bring inside.. Ouch, I'm frost bitten already! Haha

Got my light up. Does it have to be out of their reach or can it withstand a few curious pecks?
400
they LOVE it!! They're actually purring LOLL

Thanks y'all. I went back a bit later and they were all crowded at the far end of the perch so i raised it about six inches. Next time I checked they were evenly spaced on the perch and closer to the warm end. Those things really put off some heat!!

Thanks for the reminder christine9. This particular light, I have a hard time getting it open far enough to clamp onto the ledge, so I think it should be good. At least if they burn up, they die warm right? ;)

Kidding.

@ECSandCCFS - I'm sure you'll get differing opinions, but I'm just not sure I buy into the whole Vaseline thing, really. But I have nothing to base that opinion on.. Just read lots of mixed reviews.. How much shelter do they have from the cold?

I have a Red SL with a giant comb too.. But I haven't done it.

The water heaters worked! No ice on the buckets except the ones without heaters.. Had to move the babies from their pens and in with the big girls.. Nervous to see how that goes. Everything was good when I left and the big girls were even, wait for it, sharing their treats from today.!

The chickens all seem to be making it in this cold. It was 6°F this morning when I looked at the thermometer. Much warmer than other places but as cold as I've seen it here in over 20 years. I'm so glad we are getting these very cold temperatures actually. We've had such mild winters for years and we needed to kill back a few of the bugs. The bright side is it will be ten times warmer in a few days. It's the reason I came here to visit and never left.
