YO GEORGIANS! :)

Guys.. I want to go get a heat lamp at TSC on my lunch, but all the ones I've seen online say "indoor use".. I assume this is common? Just don't want to have something happen. Thanks!

Honestly, I didn't even read the packaging for mine. they're outside keeping the chickens toasty. But I will tell you, the red ones are scary as crap at 4am with the wind howling outside. I almost died this morning! Lol

Haha! Thanks. Just never bought one before and didn't want to click on all 16,000 ads to see if there was an "outdoor" one. I've always brooded indoors so just needed a regular bulb. :)

Yep, they'll all say indoor use. It just means that they aren't guaranteed to be weather-proof (i.e. rain). I use the tractor supply version outside though in both my stage 2 brooder, and the grow-out pen. I finally put one out today for the main chicken pen, pointing where they normally roost. It isn't going to help very much, but some is better than none. And after the rain from last night, I'd like to give them that extra edge.

Although it took THREE extension cords to get it installed out there, I did it. The problem with extension cords is also each connection in between where moisture might get in around the metal plugs, and short the circuit. But I solved that problem with a rubbermaid bin on top of each connection between extension cords, to protect it from dew or any more possible rain.

If it's just for one or two nights though, the heat lamp should be fine out there. Just don't keep it outside when it rains, unless it is covered somehow.

I think they put indoor use for anything that has a plug now days. Otherwise someone might use it in their swimming pool or something.

My flock is currently enjoying a warm cocktail of oatmeal with rice. That should help them keep warm tonight!

@LTygress Speaking of extension cords, I've got 3 cords coming from my shed out to each of my pens. I'm sure it'll look funny tonight with the lamps lit up.

This morning, the 2 roos I managed to put vaseline on had frostbite, while the rooster I didn't get to didn't. Go figure.
