YO GEORGIANS! :)

I wanted to share this worm website I found with you all. I don't just raise chickens, I have box turtles, a couple of garter snakes, a salamander, some bull frogs, and broad headed skinks. But they ALL love eating earth worms, including the chickens.

Yesterday I came across a website that sells earth worms (night crawlers, reds, etc.) in bulk. It's mostly meant for composting, but obviously I use them for animal food. I wrote the guy an email to basically say "thanks for existing... I needed a good worm supplier and glad I found your site!"

The response I got back was kinda heart-wrenching, and it's something ALL of us are experiencing right now. He said that "was the good news he needed to hear on a day when he just felt like throwing in the towel." Apparently he has chickens as well, and they have ALSO stopped laying with this cold weather. The worms are struggling with the cold, and he also has bees which have been dying off in the cold. So this cold snap is literally killing his business. And I'm sure that still being a "young" business doesn't help him either.

That being said, I'm just starting a new job, so it'll be a couple of months until I can start being a regular of his, and buying in bulk. But I do plan on it. And I'd like to steer anyone else that I possibly can, into his direction as well. He's right here in Georgia (Dawsonville) and according to the website, he built his business more on honesty, education, and quality, rather than profit alone. One of his pages even says "free Vermi-composting course with every purchase," because he wants to make sure others are informed. So this is one of those VERY rare occasions that I really feel a business is WORTH sharing and WORTH supporting (seriously, I rarely do recommendations). So please take a look, and if you are looking for fishing bait, compost worms, or just an occasional box of chicken treats, contact him!

I've visited his site before. I fully plan to purchase from him as soon as car can make it. Mi in laws live in Lula so it's just around the corner. That way I can leave the kids with them and go get worms without my 5yo traumatizing his whole operation.

If I'm a few good paychecks into my job by then, I may have you pick some up for me. It's a bit far for me to drive, so I was just planning to have them shipped.

Wow! Thanks for sharing! I live in Dawsonville and have never heard of this place. Will definitely check it out!

Thank you, abmaddox, for the BEAUTIFUL black silkies! My older niece (not the one you saw in the living room) loved them, and said she can't wait to see their babies! LOL!

Thanks for sharing. I'm definitely gonna check him out.

Checked out the Herron Worm Farm. I am big into recycling. Worms and chickens sure do help on that end!! I take my metal in and make a little money back. Our dump recycles but we pay...cheaper than garbage pick up though. So I have an old garbage can for glass and a big tote for metal. Have a large flowering bush and tree garden that I use the chicken bedding to fertilize some of. Pretty sure my late father in law would be proud of the way I care for his land :)

You're welcome! My kids are loving these banks! And my daughter has claimed that Sumatra mix for her own. Says it's beautiful and unique like her

Beautiful day!! Well.. Compared to the others. ;)

Coming along!
