YO GEORGIANS! :)

To have or have not and simply run down to the grocery for my eggs...that is the question. My hubby swears I'll draw in the critters by ringing ye ole dinner bell with hens in the yard (we live on about 60 acres so there are a lot of critters out there). I only want a couple not a big free ranging flock. What type are the best breeds for egg/pet and will only around 4 be good for that? Reading idiot books etc. Funny how my Aunts and Uncles just brought some home from the neighbors, fed them and gathered up the eggs...seemed so simple, not sure why it seems so complicated now.

Does anyone know where I can find a small incubator at a reasonable price. I only want to do up to 6 or 7 eggs at a time, and this will be my first attempt at hatching my own. Like others on here, the chickens were only supposed to be a part- time hobby, for grief therapy after my Mom died last year, and got hooked on my chickens in just a year. I have a RIR roo and 3 Barred Rock hens and from pictures I've seen, I think they would make such a pretty mixed breed to have in the flock.

Thanks...that looks like it might do for now, see if I really want to do this. I would love to be a little more self-sufficient also, it's nice to know if something happened we could feed ourselves and not really rely on someone else to do things for us.

your chicks will be sexlinked, females black, males barred

Hope all are okay in the weather and that "all the hatches are battened down". Adairsville has reports of cars overturned and there are more winds and etc coming. Not my favorite weather, especially with all our animals and no basement. If I try hard enough I can squeeze under the old claw tub, but I shouldn't have eaten the chocolate last night...might not fit.
Tornado now on ground in Gordon. Please be careful there.
