YO GEORGIANS! :)

Thanks, GAFarmGirl87! I appreciate the photo...is that like the stuff you sometimes see outside floor mats made of? I did put some sheets of the rubber(?) bumpy stuff with holes in it that is used to line kitchen drawers with in hopes of softening the eggs' landings. It was an old roll that no longer had the packaging so I can't say what it's called.
Are their combs fully developed before they begin to lay?

I'm not sure what it's called exactly, but yes I've seen outdoor floor mats made from that stuff before.

My girls had good sized combs before they started laying. I have a few others whose combs aren't very prominent at all, but they are a different breed. 6 out of my 10 are laying, and the 4 who aren't laying don't have much of a comb yet.

Hope that helps!

As a little kid, I once tried to dig to China with a soup spoon. I was really upset when it started raining and filled in my hole! It was almost 4" deep and I was almost there!!!! Boo!

Haha! That's awesome! I used to love making mud pies as a kid. For some reason, my parents used to get upset when I tried to eat them...

I've been hearing that on the news. One source said Death Valley reached 129 on Sunday! That's ridiculous!!
I visited Death Valley a few years back. While we were there, they were having a 100 mile running race across the desert! It was 122 degrees! These people were crazy! They have their toe nails surgically removed before the race because if they don't, their feet swell so much from the heat, that their toenails will burst off their feet! They have 7 pairs of shoes in different sizes because of the swelling! They say the runners get delirious as they run! It was crazy! We saw them running. They wear white gauzy head dresses while they run! Too hot for me!

OK, Meyer's Hatchery is having a sale. Brown Egg Layer Assortment (15 minimum). For 15 sexed females, it is $2.20 per chick or $33, but NO SHIPPING COST. This is only for 2 hatches in July. 15 Straight run is even cheaper...but I know I don't want more males! Here is the info I got from them. Anyone interested? Maybe we could share.

We've been getting plenty of rain the last couple of days. Got some 10 week old chicks in a temporary pen. Hoping the floor will dry out. They are too small to put with the grown hens
