YO GEORGIANS! :)

Sorry for your loss. I only have three laying right now, no broody hens.

I have a question regarding my 21 wk old Gold Laced Wyandotte that started laying the 28th of last month, she is the first and only from her group of assorted breeds of the same age laying. She lays 95% double yoked eggs, only missing two days of laying since she started. My 2 EE rarely do this and lay daily also. It is no wonder she is a chatty thing she is major hormonal.  Any suggestions?

I have 3 Red Stars. All of their eggs are large so I don't know if it is one hen or more but I have gotten several double yolked eggs. I got on the weighed 105 grams yesterday and 1 that weighed 81 grams today and another that weighed 71 grams. All 7 hens lay almost every day.

I have a newish group of hens. Haven't started to lay yet 2 EE's and 2 RIR's are 20 weeks. Haven't checked vents yet but one of the EE's is startin to squat a lot. My silkie is 4 wks younger and the second silkie started crowing 2 weeks ago. (UH OH) My breeder said he would do a trade if I took 2 chicks. I figure my silkie hen will take care of them, but will be prepared to put them in a box just in case she doesn't. Is she too young to take on motherhood? She is only 4 mos old.

On the Silkie...16 weeks a bit early? My only Silkie near drowned in the cold and after hours of warming, was still not right, very lethargic and no eating or much. I happened to have a batch of chicks in the brooder box, so I put in several to keep her company. The chicks wanted to snuggled, which irritated the Silkie so much she snapped out of her funk. I quickly removed them, but remain amused by the fact that being bugged by the chicks saved her.

So there's my story. My real dependable broody is an odd tempered blue laced red Wyandotte. Of real necessity vie found is to segregate broody and near hatch eggs, as there is a hen that will eat them, it's nasty and heartbreaking. I only suspect the spurred black hen, but I just don't like her and she lays the dark brown eggs. Even separated, half the flock will go broody as soon as they even hear chicks

Was really looking forward to getting Araucana and Croad Langshan eggs from a lady in FL. She has been saving them for a week and her hens stopped laying so what I am getting is 2 Araucanas and 2 Croad Langshans! Ha ha. Also got a dozen Serama eggs for my friend. So, IF any even hatch, the chances of me getting a female is small! Oh well, I will be adding my own eggs.
