I'm so glad you like them. And I understand...3 hours is a bit of a drive. Congrats on your win this weekend!
Thanks! We are getting better pictures Tuesday. I'm going to wear something that doesn't blend in with my bird. LOL!

I have 2 LF Cochin cockerels for sale. One blue and one splash, both born the end of May and hatched from the Star Cochin line. Both are beautiful but I hatched 5 boys and 1 hen...a couple of Roos have to go. Tyrone, GA, local pick-up only. $15 each. The blue is crowing but the splash has yet to make a sound.

I'm so sorry for you and the little chick. Had to do that myself last month. I cried, too. Today I took 4 young roos and my barred rock hen (who hasn't laid eggs in over 5 months) to a family about 15 miles from me. They take roos and unwanted chickens. They were a really nice family. I didn't really ask what they do with them, but I feel ok because when I got there, all the chickens were free ranging all over his big property. They all looked healthy and happy. So even if they end up eating my chickens, they will be happy to the end. I just didn't need all those extra roos and I have too many hens to keep ones that have stopped laying. The family's little boys were all wanting to hold the younger roos (8 weeks old). I am glad to have found a nice place to take all my extra roos!I guess I'm a chicken farmer now...at least on a small scale and sort of...I don't think real chicken farms cry when they have to cull.
I had 3 Tolbunt chicks hatch the end of last week. 1 was dead in shell for 1 1/2 days with only a tiny hole no more. Hubby took mercy while I was at work and freed it. It is as I've read over and over. If they can't make it out on their own there is a reason and usually it's not good. This little baby was soooo tiny despite the large egg it was in, all stuck up, could not get off it's rear to stand up (not spayed legged) and it's beak was all red. I gave it until Sunday trying baby liquid vits etc. It was just peeping non stop and wasting away. Hubby said he would cull it, but I needed to step up...these are all my birds...even to an extent the Welsummer Rooster I got for him. I spent time with the 3 wee ones then picked the little bit up and went out side away from our dogs and the flock and did what needed to be done. The whole time crying like a baby and saying I'm so sorry and praying that God would watch after his little soul. I feel awful, but I know I did everything I could and this had to be done as it was wasting away and suffering.
On the positive outlook the two other chicks are strong and showing me how smart they are already. They are eating, drinking from their water nipple bottle and having normal poos...then they make a run to get back under the protection and warmth of their eco glow.
I'm glad you found a good home for your chickens. That's the part about being a BYC owner I guess that is tough. I am glad for my 2 healthy chicks, sad for the one I had to cull and disappointed that more did not hatch. I know it's a percentages game with shipped eggs. I took very detailed notes, my humidity and temp never varied for more than time enough to add water..candling (which I did only 2x) etc. I'm happy for the two so no one is lonely. I've washed my incubator (Genesis 1588) with antibacterial soap and the plastic parts with bleach water soak.I'm so sorry for you and the little chick. Had to do that myself last month. I cried, too. Question I did not do this but I read you should put a pre 1982 penny in the water wells to deter bad microbes due to the chemical make up. Is that true?
