I just hatched 19 and am planning on setting more later this month. Yes, I'm an addict!@GoldenChicks16 All this talking is getting me excited about chicks. I can't wait to get started on a new flock!![]()
It depends on what I'm hatching for. This was to replace my older non egg laying layers. So I crossed gold comet hens with a jersey giant roo. BTW, they auto sex. Awesome! My silkies are my only purebreds and egg selection there I go by the size of the egg and how porous it is. I've noticed withe smaller eggs my hatch rates aren't as good.@abmaddox1981 How do you choose which eggs to set?
I have a hard time figuring out who is laying what. At present I fear I will be blindly selecting eggs and hoping they are fertile. It depends on what I'm hatching for. you can candle for fertility, it's a little tricky at first though.I have a hard time figuring out who is laying what. At present I fear I will be blindly selecting eggs and hoping they are fertile.
should be able to. I have to candle mine after the kids go to bed, but it's the same day. My girls lay between 8-11am and I usually candle around 9 or 10pm.Can I candle an egg for fertility just after it's been laid though?
