Okay, my eggs seem to be going into overdrive!
I knew I had several due on the 31st (yesterday). One of them had completely hatched and was out and waiting to go into the brooder when I woke up Thursday (the 30th). All other eggs had hatched yesterday before I came home from work, except one. I candled it last night and it SEEMED like it may have died during hatch, but I gave it until this morning anyway. I'm visiting the "What gender or breed is this?" thread and helping to answer a few of those posts and start to hear a LOT of soft chiping. You know, the kind of chirping they make when they are actually zipping out.
So I go to look, hoping it's the one late egg. IT'S NOT! It's an egg dated for... FEBRUARY 3RD! Two days early! It was the next one due after the ones I expected on the 31st, so it's no surprise that it was hatching next. And I checked the last egg from the 31st, cracking into the air cell, and yes he died without making an internal pip at all.
But between all of the 31st eggs hatching so quickly and the one early guy, plus this one hatching two days early, I'm wondering how and why my eggs have suddenly gone into overdrive! Not that I'm disappointed, mad, or anything like that. I love seeing baby chicks, and this was is hatching on my day off of work, which is better to me. I'm just really thrown off by all of these eggs hatching so quickly and early.
Did someone sneak Miracle Grow into my incubator's water trays or something? LOL!
