Well, I say good for you. I spent my childhood is the mountains, but my adolescence in the city. Now my young adult years have been in the country. I've got chickens, fruit trees, and a nice garden that provides fresh veggies in spring, summer, and fall. I can fruit, and some veggies, but freeze the rest. My dad is a fisherman and a deer hunter, so we process our own meat, except for ground and cubed-that we take to a local processor.

I make jam, and bread from scratch. I love to knit and crochet. I don't know anyone my own age who is into this kind of lifestyle.

I wouldn't trade this life for anything.

That's why I love this site. It's refreshing to talk with others in my home state, of all ages, who love chickens. Plus lots of folks on here live off the land as much as possible. BYC is my kind of peoples

Yea, its nice to see like minded peoples all sorts on here. Especially because I live in such a tiny town.

1 Mystery hen (was suppose to hatch out a Lemon Orpington, but it's nowhere near that! Sent photo of the bird to the lady I got the egg from and she can't even imagine what crossed what to produce that chicken!)

2 Super Blue egg layers (mixes to produce lots of blue eggs!)
3 Naked Necks (green egg layers)
1 Frizzled EE
6 mixed EE/frizzle/NN from my own eggs - 1 male to be rehomed
2 Seramas (going to new homes this week)

Yea, I like variety. I like to know one chicken from the other. They all have names and they all lay a different color/size egg. I know which egg came from which chicken!

I feel the same way.  I grew up in the woods, moved to a city.  My DH and I hated all the concrete and people and traffic.  Finally found our 25 acres out in the middle of nowhere.  Mountains and lakes and lots and lots of trees!  This property is ME! My spirit soars when I walk thru the woods!  Love it!

I'll have that much land of my own one day. Or so I hope.

Sanchabird There is one thing that will make want to know how to process you chickens and that is hunger. It could happen, knowing, how would be A plus .Even if you never have to.

I agree, hate hate hate traffic and concrete for that matter, I like dirt roads! We have 30 acres literally out in the middle of nowhere and I can't wait to live there! Hey that rhymed. Although I don't like trees, I like pastures full of animals! The 30 acres is all pine trees there are maybe 20 hardwoods so Id be happy with pastures as I hate pine trees!

Then I must make my own.

Yes! Breakfast was delish for me today also. My own chickens eggs (scrabled), hashbrowns with sweet peppers and onions topped cheese, sausage from a local pig farmer that we know, honey wheat toast, and a couple cups of coffee. I used to work in a breakfast place in the kitchen and have been the only cook at one point.but I love to cook so I go all out when I do.

I agree with having variety especially since I name my chickens. I forget, is the polish the one that has a puff on its head?

Its what makes things unique and interesting. Thats like a rainbow of the chicken world. But with a lot more color (figuratively speaking).
