YO GEORGIANS! :)

My eggs are pipping... but on the wrong end... I have 2 that have both pipped on the wrong end. No other pips so far. First hatch and kinda freaking out.
Check them and make sure they are still active, breathing, etc. They could actually be just fine. I had one do that recently and left him alone. He zipped the wrong end too, but he hatched out just fine.

I have a question, how long is too long to leave a fertile egg under a broody before it starts developing and can't be used to eat?
That's a good question. I know when candling eggs, I can start to see development just 5 days in. But then you're looking through a shell for that, and there might be some things on the inside that you can't see when candling.

Actually, yesterday I candled a dozen eggs that are due on the 3rd, so they were only two days in on incubation. While there is no sign of blood vessels or embryo body parts from the outside of the shell, two of them seemed to have very "compact" yolks that showed up slightly darker than what I normally see in an egg that hasn't been in the incubator at all, or never develops.

But really, I'd have to experiment with this to find out. Maybe in the middle of summer when chick and egg sales die down, I'll do it.

Okay, folks, I'm going to camp Tractor Supply today. No, literally. Kinda.

They said their stock truck usually comes in on Tuesdays. They sell out of brooder lamp bulbs within a couple of days of getting them - and then they are out of stock until the following week. I've got so many normal plain old light bulbs being used as brooder lights right now - and one with a cheap tin cake pan on it as a "lamp". I've missed out on them for the past month, now! I NEED BROODER BULBS!

So I'm going to sit at the one in McDonough until the truck comes in.

While there, I need to see about buying three ducks for the niece who lost hers, and the nephew who wants his own, and a bag of chick feed. But mostly, the brooder bulbs! So if their truck is late, and any of you come through while I'm waiting, stop by and say hello! LMAO!

I'll probably be checking out their tarps and fence posts, trying to ghetto-rig a tent inside of the store to sleep in until the bulbs arrive.
