Great. I'm getting chicks for the first time in two weeks. I have two doxies. I hope they won't find chicken poo as a tasty treat. One of them already seeks out rabbit poo!

I will almost guarantee you that they will eat it given the chance. My big dog is so bad she has a corn allergy that makes her loose hair on her butt. We feed her food with no corn products in it, but she has eaten enough chicken poo(they eat corn based feed) to trigger her hair loss.

Dogs will eat almost any kind of poo they can find. Mine liked to troll the horse pen to see if any of them pooped close enough to the fence for him to eat it.

We got our first perfectly laid egg on July 1st, the next day nothing, then one found with extremely soft shell dropped on the poop tray. On the 4th a yolk and whites with no shell was on the back porch, then on the 5th nothing. On the 5th I put up curtains around mid-day. On the 6 and 7th I found a perfect egg in the nest box. This morning I found an egg yolk on the poop tray while I was cleaning up the tray our Australorp went into one of the nest boxes for about 5 minutes and came out singing the egg song and the others started singing with her. There was no egg so she was telling a fib. A few minutes ago I found an egg laying in semi tall grass in the shade under a lawn chair. Now the RIR that I believe started laying first is in one of the nest boxes. Hmm... We have 4 hens at 19 weeks old so I think 3 are laying with 2 not so perfectly and 1 fibber. Will see what happens when the other RIR comes out of the nest box.

Congratz. I went home for lunch to find my cornish rock in the laying box. Dunno if she was trying to lay or just hiding from the roos. She is the biggest slowest easiest target for the roos. Hopefully she gives an egg today. Would be the first step in my genetic experiment.

The RIR that was in the nest box must have been just taking a break from the roos. They drive her crazy. There wasn't an egg and she wasn't singing when she left the nest box. I will check again later to see if she decided to try again. Boy is it hot today! I loved all the cooler air we got with the hurricane that went up the coast line this past weekend. I am not a warm weather person.

That sucks allot. I really thought I was going to have a problem with the dogs and chickens being unattended. I started off by not letting the chickens out of the run and coaching my dogs as we went out to see them. Eventually I let the chickens out while coaching the dogs in close enough proximity to punt one over the fence if need be. The few times they did snap at the chickens I scolded them very harshly and ran them into the house. Now I take popcorn out as a treat and everybody huddles around waiting for their turn. If I could only figure out how to keep them from eating chicken poo I would be 100% satisfied in their coexistence.

Please come train my dogs!! They're not quite a year old and half lab, so they're nothing but huge puppies. They want to chew on everything. I don't think they would actually eat the chickens, but they'd certainly play with them. When the girls ran away the dogs would think that's part of the game. Big galoots!
