Albany, GA born and raised.......
The Chicken Chick has a link on one of her pages to USDA Veternarians. This is what her page said:So my hen just diedI want to send her for a necropsy to UGA, anyone have that number by chance?? I keep trying to Google it, but I can think straight, I'm so sad. I felt her crop, I didn't feel an object this morning like I thought I did yesterday. Now I just don't know what happened?? She was convulsing before she died, terrible![]()

thank you. I contacted the ga dpt of agriculture poultry lab nearest me, it's free there. However, they are closed during the weekend and 48 hours is the time limit for necropsy, which would be Monday, I can't drive there then. It's in Forsyth. I just gave her a proper burial. If I lose another I will hope it's not on a weekend. The uga vet clinic charges $100!The Chicken Chick has a link on one of her pages to USDA Veternarians. This is what her page said:
**Any time a chicken dies unexpectedly, a veterinarian, poultry pathology lab, state extension office or the USDA should be consulted for a disease investigation that includes a necropsy of the deceased bird(s). Always preserve the body for a necropsy by keeping it cold, never frozen, until further instruction is given by a vet. I am very sorry for your loss. Such a hard thing to deal with.
You are kidding me?!?!?! $100 for a necropsy? That is crazy. It is almost like taking them to the vet. I am still so sorry for you loss. I am glad that you were able to give her a proper burial. I don't mean this to sound weird but if I ever lose one on the weekend from mysterious reasons then I may just do the necropsy myself. I mean the only thing (not the only thing but it would be a great learning process) that I would not be able to determine would be what type of respiratory illness if there was mucus or puss found in the lungs and blood work for infections. Anyways, now that I have freaked everyone out I will get back to my sunday business! lolthank you. I contacted the ga dpt of agriculture poultry lab nearest me, it's free there.
