YO GEORGIANS! :)

Ana didn't make it. She died during the night.
This is very sad news.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of y'all's baby horse.

Oh Robo! I am sick, too! Why do things like that have to happen? Why do sweet innocent things die when all sorts of evil (mostly people) terrorize the world! I'm gonna have a long talk with God tonight!

So, I had a private message about sprouting and I think I would like to do that. What if I build a raised bed and grow some grass/oats/etc and then put a screen or hardclothe wire over the top so that the grass/oats grow thru the wire. That way, the chickens could not eat the whole thing and kill the roots, but just pluck off the top portion of the grass so it can keep growing. Has anyone tried this and does it work?

WHAT on Earth or in GA is going on? I have read where many in GA are losing animals from heat and other reasons. Now my daughter has lost a hen. She was acting lethargic, not eating much and had watery diarrhea on Wednesday. She separated her from the others and gave her electrolytes, probiotics, and scrambled egg she ate and drank more on Thursday and was walking around. They went to eat lunch today with her in laws and came back to the hen dead. No idea why. My son in law called UGA $200 and then the Ag office but they are closed on the weekend so they will just have to bury her. I hope the others don't get sick.

Disease, is now, and has always been a huge problem with domesticated farm animals. It isn't just Georgia, it happens everywhere! Domestic animals just don't have the same immunities that their wild cousins do. It is probably because humans are too softhearted. We treat instead of cull. Nature culls!! If a wild animal is infected with a virus it usually dies, if not, then it will pass it's immunity on to it's offspring. Humans treat animals that are sick, then breed those animals and their offspring have NO immunity. We've done this for thousands of years, it's no wonder that we have problems.

Apperently it was some condition caused by incompatability between stud and mare. As soon as the baby nursed and took on mom's antibodies, her death sentence was signed. There was no way of knowing. Had there been a way to tell we could have saved her by bottle feeding immediately but there wasn't.

Sorry for your loss, she was a beautiful girl!!

Think of it this way, how many human babies do you know that have issues where hospitalization is needed and they grow into healthy adults....we can't do this with our live stock. It sucks but its for the best and in the long run, Gods will...Hate it in the short run.
