YO GEORGIANS! :)

Sorry, my stupid phone quit working. I will be getting a new one Tuesday the second my contract ends. GRRRR!!!!!!

Anyhow, yes, she's serious. Right now we have about 30 roosters that need to be processed or rehomed..... I don't care which. I told her to offer somebody some of the processed birds in exchange for helping her process them. Free meat for the price of getting here and spending some time with GAM.... (come to think of it that's a pretty steep price)

She had to process a mallard today. Somehow it got injured. Very odd....it's bottom bill/lip/beak whatever you call it was split from the end all the way to the feathers. Right down the middle like it had been done on purpose. We're thinking one of the hoofed animals stepped on it during a feed frenzy. I had to wring its neck for GAM since she wasn't prepared to process and didn't have her knife with her. And she has never killed a bird that way.

Wow 30... you must have a deep freezer or something to store meat. I think it's important that I learn, so I will probably come see you guys, just need to figure out timing. You guys have quite a production going on over there... how many hens?

I have no idea really. There are so many birds running around our place I don't even bother counting. And we have 10 or 15 roosters that won't be leaving. But we don't have room for that many roosters in our freezer and GAM don't have the back to process that many so that's why I want her to get some help in exchange for processed birds.

Nevermind,I bookmarked it and forgot. Im thinking I need to take a field trip to visit one of the chicken veterans on here. There are little to no chicken owners near me in the Atl. I only have 7 but want to add more hens in the spring. I still need to give away to roosters and I'm willing to drive to see them go to a good home, thought maybe I could convince one of you to take them and I could pick your brain about chicken owning, winter setup, etc. Did I mention that we get free produce (almost anything you can think of we get) and I could load you up before the holiday? Any takers?

Why don't you take your roosters to auction? I've never seen a rooster Not sale. You can get anywhere from $5 to $40 per rooster. They have an auction every Saturday in Cleveland. There are others, but I only know Cokers.

I should learn to process chickens, too. I'm just not sure I am ready yet. I guess it wouldn't be so hard to do if I don't know the chickens. When are you thinking about doing your processing, Gam?

How long can a hen go without laying the egg that is inside her? On Thursday the Dr. took an x-ray of our hen and said she had an egg in her but it was still way up in her not to where she would be egg bound. I figured she would have laid it by now. Her comb and wattles are still pale. I have gotten her to eat some yogurt to hopefully balance her out due to her being on antibiotics. I have been soaking her in warm Epsom salt water every afternoon to help heal her feet and I was hoping get her to lay the egg. I don't know what else to do. I'm open to suggestions.

I just moved from Jasper County, SC to Effingham County, GA.
Count one more on your tally.
