YO GEORGIANS! :)

FLOWER!! I just went to the bator to check the EEs and I have a PIP in a BLRW egg!! One of two.. I CANNOT believe it. Can't wait to see if it's strong enough to hatch. And now I'm hoping the second one will do the same!!

How long can you leave chicks in the bator? I've heard suggested either not more than 12 hrs I think. I reeeeally don't wanna open it now that the Wy has pipped

Just candled the 54 eggs crammed into my 40 egg bator. I am recycling 18 of them....They were not fertile. Will feed them back to the other chickens. There were 4 more that were iffy. I can look at those infertile eggs and know exactly who my roo is NOT banging! LOL! But, the nice thing is I have 4 fertile eggs in there from my Swedish Flower Hen, so if they hatch, they will be purebred chicks. They are kind-of rare and so much fun to watch feather out. They are one of those breeds that can be different colors! So, as of now, there are 36 eggs left but will probably be tossing those other 4 next week. Nothing new on Mamma. Of course, I still haven't seen under her! Dillion, my SF roo Flower, my SF hen More recent photo of Flower
:lau :lau :lau Oh, your SF are beautiful!

Chicks can stay in the incubator up to 3 full days. (That's how hatcheries can ship chicks without any food or water in with them!) What color are you hoping for? Of the three color versions, the blue and splash are my favorite. And wouldn't you know that the one BLRW I hatched this summer was the black version!

O wow really? Okay well I'll just leave them all then!

Umm I dunno, I had this pair because my friend couldn't keep them but I sold them New Years. I just had a few eggs still cycling through the bator and these are the last two. I honestly didn't care whether they hatched. I like either blue or black though. But, if it's a pair I'll probably sell them. If it's two pullets I'll keep. And if it's two cockerels I'll die. LOL. Jk but I'll sell them too. ;)

Well. I've been watching videos to see if there's anything aside from the obvious. I have died laughing at some of these CHICKEN FOLK!!

This stuff is hysterical. I'd post a couple here but I'm afraid they're BYC members! Baahahahaa!!

Anyway, you can either clip the spurs like you would a dogs nail (which was my assumption and all I've done in the past).. OR you can grasp the base with pliers and "gently twist" until it cracks.. Then pull off the outer covering. Which I don't think I'd like because what's underneath isn't much shorter and still looks like it's be super sharp once it hardens.

Anyone have their own preference here?
I used this on one of my Speckled Sussex roosters. http://www.petco.com/assets/product_images/0/097298021169C.jpg
It worked. I took the plastic guard off. It's about time to trim them again on him and a few other roosters we have.

You know, I do have a real-live, heavy duty Dremel that I use on my dogs' nails. Had thought of trying it but thought the noise maybe a no-go. But if it worked for you.. Plus I guess I will have a holder. Duh. Thanks!

A reciprocating saw with a rescue blade will take care of them pesky spurs.

Bring it!

Of course when you saw it off right at the leg, he may bleed to death.... maybe a little more research is required.

Tell ya what. We'll try it out on YOUR boy first.

How are the Donks?

And what are those chicks looking like? The EE crosses? I didn't realize how BIG mine from last weekend were until I say as stared at these new babies so long lol
