I don't have any yet, (and I certainly don't want 25!) but I'm setting up my brooder this week and expecting to get some peeps soon!

Ha! Wait till chicken math kicks in. You'll have 25 in no time, and scheming for more. Or maybe planning on goats or bees or the like! They are addictive!

Want to bring them to the next chicken swap at my store in March? A friend just picked up chicks and he really wants barred rocks also.
 
Alright so let's say you have 2 yellow/red chicks that in all reality look like red rangers or red sex links. Suddenly their wing feathers start coming in and they are a creamy white. Now the kicker, they have feathered legs. What do i have? Fingers crossed they are light brahma's that somehow got slipped into the mix on accident.
 
OK, I have a dilemma. Remember the hatching eggs I got way too early? Well, the lady said there is no way I should wait until Thur to set them (probably because they are older than I even think they are...,so, I am thinking about setting those 14 eggs tonight. Problem is that they would be hatching (or starting to hatch) on the day before I have to fly to NYC to help my daughter. We all know some chicks take longer so they would be hatching into the day I leave for NYC. That would leave my DH to try to figure out what to do! AND, he would also have to be putting the other eggs in lockdown while I am gone, AND he would be taking care of all the other chickens, dogs, and renters.! So, do I risk waiting another 5 days to set them or do I go ahead and set them and take my chances that DH can handle everything?

I have used the paper towels under the eggs in the past and I think it obstructs the air flow especially when the paper towels get wet. I have eggs on lockdown now without the paper towels.
I removed the egg turner. I raised the wire rack to keep the eggs in the same temperature zone and placed the eggs directly on the wire rack. I think I will have better air flow this way. I will find out in a few days. :)

Ugh.. :( I had used the shelf liner last hatch and loved it. Forgot to get a new roll before lockdown this time and thought I had seen people use paper towel. Wish I'd asked first. Oh well. Lesson learned.

If I don't get rid of them I just might! I really loved seeing all the birds at the show and would like to do something else like it.

Take them to the swap and make a few bucks, or I might just buy them there, I live in Rome

I have waited and hatched 3 week old eggs with no problems, I put them in an egg carton and had them in a cool room and put am on one end of the egg carton and pm on the other end, I then would raise the end up to about 45 degrees I did it in the am and them at night before going to bed hence pm so that way I would remember so having said that as long as you keep the innerds moving I would think an extra 5 days would be ok, but I would not go beyond the 3 week mark for the age of the eggs. I hope that helps oh and I had 9 out of 9 hatch on old eggs
