So... since one of the chicks I picked up ended up not being what I thought she was, I'm going back for more tomorrow. It's only been a week, so do you think it's ok to add the new chicks to my current 10? It'll be in addition to a bedding change, so should smell and look like a new habitat. Or should I set up a second area for a little while for the newbies?

You should be fine. I've got as old as 3 weeks and as young as 1 week in the brooder right now.

Oh! Another question. The instructions for the red plug in the Hovabator said to only remove it for high altitude hatch so I guess I leave that in not being at high altitude. I just thought someone said on a past post to remove all plugs during hatch.

I think so,but hard to tell as it is spotted black I would love it to be a silver laced wyandotte

I have never kept my chicks at the 100 degrees that I read should be done and decreasing like in the other post, I keep mine around 80 and it makes the chicks feather out faster and they seem to be happy because they are all over the box not just under the heat source.
