so I need to get some chick grit? They are living in a 4'*2' Cage in my bedroom. Didn't want them in the coop with the older hens until they get all there feathers.I sit them out side on the weekend but bring them back in at night.still a little cool at night. As long as they have been exposed to grit aka dirt they can have just about anything ok for chickens like grass, bugs, veggies, etc.

You can put a little sand or dirt in their brooder for grit. Not powder like sand but some with very tiny rocks just a bit bigger than sand grains. If they are exposed to your yard they should be getting some grit. I don't like the grit you buy at feed stores because to me it smells awful and makes their poop smell even worse.![]()
Yep, I was born and raised in Meridian. Moved to GA about 16 years ago.Oh. Well I didn't get to see much outside of the gates. lol
Your very welcome! Just an FYI chicks love dried worms and are fun to watch with them. I love to put one dried worm in our brooder the first time and watch what they do then I give them enough so they each get a worm or two. I don't go over board though. They don't need too much. Their feed is very important for their growth.@valleychicks,10/4 thanks for the help.
Can anyone tell me if baby chicks need anything extra besides the chickfeed to eat? (They are 4weeks old).
Sheesh, I didn't kill your cat...lighten up;-) No, I didn't shut it off for several days then expect something to hatch. I couldn't hear anything over the fan running so I unplugged it for 2 MINUTES to listen and check eggs. It was on day 23. I used to suggest giving more time than that too until the bator was on too long for quitters. For me (not everything works for everyone-find what works for you and roll with it) I like to check after a few days of nothing to make sure it is worth leaving the bator on. Happy hatchingI wasnt the one who turned if off. Re read the thread. I said I thought she turned it off too soon
