YO GEORGIANS! :)

So I candled the eggs and I think that my Isbars might be quitters. I have a couple of infertile BCM eggs and the rest look great! I got to see movements and everything. The top photo is the Isbar egg and the bottom is the BCM egg. The little black dot in the middle is the embryo and it was moving around!!!!! Yea!!!!

Let the babies out to play today. They were having fun.

Then, I realized my resident snake, Samantha, had made her first spring appearance! I noticed the big bulge in her belly and was thinking, "Oh no! Samantha, did you eat one of my babies!" The babies were right below her!

But, all my babies are accounted for, so she must have eaten one of the numerous frogs that are in the garden right now. Thank you, Samantha, for not eating one of my babies! Poor Samantha, she can't fit back into her home right now!

we had a rat snake that lived in the cross tie wall at our house one time. Never had mice at all. Freaked my daughter out when it crawled out on her shoulder though. And the day we realized what we thought we were watching as one snake in the wall, turned out to be two......then we had a bunch of snakes later that summer no mice at all though

love the shots of the babies!

today I moved my 3 3 week old aussies and the 3 4 week old white leghorns out to the coop and run with the 5 and 6 week old blue americaunas. They'd been in the brooder together when I first got the last 6, but didn't play that well together. Two weeks ago or so, I moved the AMs out to the coop.

So today, the big chicks chased the little chicks all over. I figured they'd all just work things out, but man those 6 week olds are way bigger than the 3 week olds. They wouldn't let them eat or drink. This evening after I got home from church, I turned the lamp back on for the babies, and the big kids ran them off and were all cuddled up under it. Fully feathered and hogging the heat? I don't think so.......so I fixed their tail feathers, I took one of the doors and one of the ends off the brooder box, and cordoned off a section of the coop. Put the two portable feeders, and a water fountain in there, and aimed the light so it's pointing at them. I did build a permanent feeder the big kids can access and eat from, they're not going hungry.....LOL

Big kids do NOT like that they can't get to them, but tough tootsies! Tomorrow I'll fix it better after I let the big kids out, I'll fix a more permanent 'brooder' and section off part of the run until they get more the same size.

my 'between the studs' feeder I built out of left over sheeting. Lined the inside with left over galvanized metal from the roof:

I'm almost scared to ask (almost)

I'm not afraid of snakes but that would freak me out being so close to the babies. ok, I looked at the babies I hatched and 2 have the red waddles really defined so I take it they are going to be roosters? and the others all still have flat and white waddles, hens? if that is the case out of the eggs I got from flower only 2 are roosters and the rest hens, what do you all think?

pic of the only Bantam that hatched

it looks like the Easter peeps

yeah it does....now I'm craving sugar, HA time to go raid the pantry

So you're in Rome? cool, I bet We've seen each other at TSC. I have to make a run up there tomorrow since there's an 80% chance of rain I won't be doing much else. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm ready for some drier weather!
