YO GEORGIANS! :)

sad day here, I won an auction and had gotten maran eggs and they are infertile, this hatch is going to be the worst I have ever done, cause the other eggs are showing a blood ring, what causes blood rings? Is it my new incubator? it has been running at 99 to 100 and humidity between 45 to 55 so any ideas as to what has gone wrong?

I'm not certain but I think it has something to do with bacteria getting in the egg.

Question please and thank you regarding incubation of Bantam Cochin eggs. I had some cooking that are at day 18, I've candled and laid the viable eggs to rest. To date I've only hatched LF. I have noticed a big difference with humidity drops with these, I have to stay on it constantly to keep it level. In my never ending research lol I've read a chart in Gail Damerow's "Hatching & Brooding" (pg 175) that claims Bantams have a shorter incubation time by a few days. Has anyone out there noticed this? I'm a boiling pot watcher any way, but just wondering. Curious minds (this one) would like to know.

So I decided to throw something together for the equine critters. Mostly stuff that I had lying around. Had to buy 3 2x4's and the siding.

Went out to look at the babies yesterday and all but one of my AM were on one roost. They are just too cute lol.. Becoming much more friendly too. I'm so glad I got them!

My bantams hatched at day 19. I have read that most do.

Well this hatch will be a wait and see then I guess. Today is day 18, usually the day I set my eggs too rest for hatch. Given the chart I mentioned I did it a day early and set them last night, candling reveled they were full and heavy with a good air sac. (Started with 13. 2 were not fertile and 3 very questionable at 5 days= set 8 last night) Usually I can hear someone making noise, but all is quiet. I appreciate the great packaging in shipment, but when I candled at five days I did notice a bit of splotchy looking shell as apposed to solid appearance. I'm hoping for the best. Thanks for the info :)

I realize this is an ongoing running thread with a lot of people who now know each other and chat daily but I'm from Georgia, Claxton area, and wanted to say hi! I just got my first ever chicks a week ago. Learning as we go! I have a dog and horse as well.
