I'd have to just tell her, if we're bothering anyone else, I'm sure they can speak for themselves. You're way nicer than I am, because I don't like people in general, LOL too many years working a job dealing with the public I think. My son in law calls me Mr Wilson, our last house the neighbor kids were constantly riding their bikes and walking, not just IN our yard mind you, right by the stinking windows! Subdivision or not, cut the corner of the yard, ok. Play kickball and use my back yard as the outfield, hey, beats them being out on the street somewhere. but DON'T walk right by my windows.........

"you kids get outta my yard!!!!!" this was the same house where the one neighbor let his dogs terrorize the neighborhood until the day I told him I'd shoot them and he told me to call the law. Which I did, and he wound up with a citation for each of the 3 dogs that were running loose......cost him over 500 of his hard earned dollars........... bahahaha

She was old enough to be my grandmother so I went easy the first time and I know for a fact she probably knows people who go to my husbands church,. In a town of less than 500 people. I didn't want to be labeled the crazy NYer with the potty mouth. I have a tendency to say things to people that are mean enough to make satan himself blush, when I feel cornered. My husband doesn't like that very much, he is a southern gentleman. However, he's quite annoyed with her too, now. I gave him fair warning that if she comes over here again, to basically tell us what we can and cannot do on our property, he just needs to walk away.

Well I tried asking this question earlier today to Cliff but I think it got lost in the posts. Does anyone know what breed of caramel colored chicks TSC had this year? I'm asking because a friend of mine is trying to help a chick that was injured at our local TSC in the shipment and we just wanted to know the breed. The employees didn't know what breed it was and the sign said straight run manager special. Here is the chick and it's feathering. The chick was about 3 to 5 days old when the picture was taken. Anyone know what the breed may be?

 
For the mites of all kinds I started with DE every 5 days since we had so much rain off and on and I never saw them trying to dust bathe. Rubbed it in all over especially around the ear 'feathers'. The boy quit shaking his head after the 2nd time. I had been dusting both since they lived together. When I got them we still had snow and cold so I never checked the girl really good until about 3 weeks later- knits all under her wattles and around her head! DE wasn't cutting it so I got off brand Sevin dust. The girl will sit on my lap and lay her head back like a dog when I rub the mite eggs trying to get them off. They both have reddened up and just have a healthy look to them although we are still battling the critters. Ear mites are detected just like in dogs and cats- tiny black specs (poop) in and around the ear hole and knits if it is bad enough to see them. Flush with peroxide (they do not like this at all!) and barely swab with q-tip. My boy is a gentle giant and seemed to know I wasn't trying to hurt him. Dusting helps more than anything though. Dime sized portions of the boy's wattles were black as well as a good bit of his comb. With warm weather it fell off and healed beautifully on its own. Pics to come today. (Never seen or heard of ear mites in chicks unless the adults they are with would have them really bad.) Thanks for the suggestion about flea/tick stuff- thought about it the other day but withdrawal period for the eggs gets me right now. Was collecting to incubate for a few more females to keep. Out of 22 days this month she has given me 15 eggs so the LOs are good layers.
The chick in the pic could be Production RIR, or any of the 'reds' sold like New Hampshire Red, Isa Brown (?) etc. More feathering would get us a bit closer in guessing since so many chicks are that color for different breeds

Hi! I am not an expert by any means, I just got my first flock. But, they look exactly like my Buff Orpingtons did at 3-5 days. I got mine at a local feed store because our TSC didn't have them at the time I came in for them. I hope you are able to figure it out! It seems a lot of birds look the same as chicks. LOL

I think this thread moves so fast it's easy to do! I have one a ways back that got missed. I don't even remember what it was about or when. LOL
I will say this, it's the only thread on a forum that I have ever found interesting enough to try to keep up with.
 
So, today is the day the coop build begins. I got the space cleared, the bricks laid out where the 4x4 posts will be. I'm a little fearful and overwhelmed. I am just a girl. I've never built anything in my life, really. I may or may not have assistance from the husband, IF his work schedule permits. Knowing how unflexible that is for him, I have my doubts. I guess I kind of picked a pretty ambitious project for a first timer, huh?

He also looks similar to my RIRs as chicks. Maybe a RIR or production red?
