YO GEORGIANS! :)

I feed mine 2 times a day, after their feeding frenzy is over, I take up the food. When I clean shavings, it's mostly shavings

I like this idea, too. I would probably mess up and forget to feed them on days that we are so busy!

Duuuude!!!! I am SOOOO mad right now. Just took a shovel to the "big kid" brooder to replace some shavings.. There's more dang FOOD in there than droppings. What on EARTH do y'all do to keep the juvies from wasting so much!? Just looked at the bag of starter/grower I bought last TUESDAY and it's all but gone. Maybe two scoops left.

Scoop out some shavings and leave the food. Let the feeder go empty, they'll eat it from the floor and voila, no waste. I did this and taught them to clean up after themselves....

Thanks guys for the replies. I did leave a good bit in the brooder and just put clean shavings on top.. And left the feeder out for now so they can scratch.. Great minds and all, Papa Chaz :p

Then the wheelbarrow full I took and dumped into another run. Thanks flower! I'll take it all up in a few days.

i understand how you feel my JUVENILES are doing the same thing what i do is go out and rake the dropping out and sture up the food left and di not replace so much food in the feeder it makes them have to scratch up left over baby food i i also just move the wheat straw off it and flip in another place to encourage scratching i sprinkle a little fresh food on top of the pile that i rake up this works most of the time all they need is to think you jave given a mess of fresh food each time sometimes you have to work around this and encourage a little ground scratching.

so try a large pan like a litter pan a kitty uses and put some food in it not alot just some it will give some room for scratching and eating at the same time.
