This weeks chicks have started pipping! 1 hatched and 12 more pipping. (out of 16) Hopefully the others will pip and hatch too!

Just candled some of the Lav Ams that were sent to me. Two had blood rings and one looks like a no go. Didn't have time to candle all of them....renters just arrived. Another wedding here this weekend. But, I was just wondering. When these eggs arrived, they were wet from condensation. I have never received eggs like that. It can't be ideal, but will they be ok? So far, 3 of the 13 are not good. Will candle the others later tonight.

Yum!! wait till my DH comes home and finds out we are having leftovers I just know he will be so thrilled, I keep hopeing he will fire me as his cook but so far I've been it for 20 years, think I have any chance of that happening, especially since I used to play a chef at Barnsley Gardens Resort here in Adairsville, no I don't cook like that all the time.  

Oh NEWS FLASH  you know I am amazed on a daily basis with these guineas,  I watch them try and catch the flies in the pen, funny but they did catch a few.

Leftovers are good cause the seasonings have marinated! My husband doesn't mind LO'S but my children hate it! So I tell them "your hands aren't put on backwards"! 21yr old daughter & 17 yr old son still at home! Geesh!
My son works at Panera Bread Co. so he's always coming home with his own food and sometimes I get treats too!

anyone want to go on a diet with me? We can make it a contest and it will have to be on the honor system. we could pick someone to moderate it and we send our start weight to and after the time period is up we send our current weight and let that person announce the winner. Prize is how ever much money we decide to wager and we send it to the moderator so she can send it to the winner.

BTW, how did the candling class go, did you make it?

SWEET ! a best friend I love it , No I didn't get to the class I really need to with the new birds I will be in eggs before you know it . The coop has come out great all except the poo board the guys built it out of 2x4s and 3/4 plywood it is way too heavy . I will need another person to help clean the darn thing ,but now that I have a best friend it won't be a problem . We will be starting on the run next week . Still working on the picture thing I hope to share some soon .

Hmmm. I saved most if not all of the receipts and such. According to him I spent twice that much. On just the coop. I'm sure he's counting cost of feed, the chicks themselves, etc. He doesn't miss a penny. ever. He might(?) be exaggerating, but I know me and my ability to spend money like a drunken sailor. I can justify any purchase no matter how ridiculously impractical. My spending philosphy is "budget schmudget...". Especially in Home Depot, Ikea or Target. If he hands me his CC I'm like

. That's really bad, huh?

I can't tell you that is bad because if you send me to a garden center ,art and craft store or H.D I can give you a run for your money with budget schmudget .

I would actually totally do this with you. I definitely need it! I don't have much in the way of money to wager though, what were you thinking? Percentage of weight lost or poundage number? What Time limit?

@GAMarans I saw a while back that (posted about a week ago?) about mealworm farms? I'm starting one myself soon. So if you don't want to, I'll be happy to share once mine's producing!

I'm sorry to report that I've lost two of the four chicks I hatched. The Mostly-marans that hatched first, and the little brahma mix. I don't think it was anything I did other than leaving the biggest chick in there a little too long. I think she inadvertantly hurt them or out-competed them for the food. She's about 6 weeks while the little ones are barely 2 weeks now and still very small. I separated them this morning and the other chicks seem fine now? Still sad to have lost some.

On a more positive note the dozen eggs I ordered came today and he...uh...added one or two extra?

Yes, that is 21 eggs for the price of 12! I told him I wanted 6 BLRW and 6 "Hen's choice", well I got my 6 BLRW (in the bottom right corner there) Plus an ecclectic selection of random other eggs including 3 OE,5 Orps in asst colors, a rhodebar, two Cream Legbars, and a couple I couldn't ID yet. AND all the eggs except one seem to be LG-Jumbo sized! Guys, I am VERY excited about this hatch.


Also, I was browsing MyPetChicken as I often do to see what they're currently offering, and I was surprised to see they're offering assorted hatching eggs of frizzles, silchins, and NNs! Made me think of @Flowerbh and @rockyrhodes.
