YO GEORGIANS! :)

Like this? Bought some sod and put it under this frame. As the grass grew, the hens could only eat the tops that grew threw the wire. I would replace it with another piece of sod the next day and let the old ones grow taller again. If I had more frames, you could just leave the grass in there, but only had one frame and lots of sod so I would switch them up.

Fodder is like this and the chickens eat the whole thing, grass, seeds and roots. One pound of seed makes about 7 pounds of feed.
This pic is just plain mean, they are looking like really why would she do this again. Fodder lessons please and what seed and where to buy it

Really? because there is a GINORMOUS ant hill that popped up in the chicken yard, right where I need to build the run. 2'x2'. We have fire ants everywhere but I can't tell if these are or not. I thought about taking one for the team and letting one sting me to be sure the birds don't get hurt, but reconsidered. All I have to get rid them is some Spinosad spray(per a local farmer's recommendation to use where our well is, but it didn't seem to work on the other ant hills. Maybe l should try and catch the roaming guineas that are running loose and throw em in with the chickens? *jk
Yeah steal them if you can catch them, they certainly do not like it, they holler like they are being killed and then the whole yard is in an up roar, but really they did a number on the hills in my yard, they peck the mound and wait for the ants to come up and get them one at a time course I have 6 so that is 12 beady little eyes on the hunt.

Yes!

Yeah I do the same, only I have to have cash, I can't have the CC and I have a lot of unauthorized purchases according to my DH. You have priorities just not the same as his. and BTW that vid was really funny and her son is walking in the background I'm sure embarrassed as hell

I can't keep track of cash. I lose it all the time. I hate that. Either way, I can do some serious damage if you turn me loose in a store. From what I understand/have been told by many doctors, it's a very common thing with AD/HD. Not that that justifies it, but there does seem to be a connection. Some days are better than others. I have to make lists and make a very very concious effort NOT to stray from it.

I know! I bet he was! So funny.

I know! The first time I saw them come onto our property, they were heading towards where the husband and I were working. He pointed them out and just as I saw them, one of my dogs noticed and gavechase. Nearly caught one but they made it to the pecan tree in the middle of the pasture. Barely. They screeched forever! LOUD!

never heard anything like that. I hear them all the time of in the distance in other peoples yards. Saw them running out in my back yard behind the pool fence the other day. There used to be 3 but now I see only 2.

Growing Fodder for your Animals

What is Fodder?
Fodder is growing greenery, usually barley, wheat, BOSS, alfalfa, lentils and other grasses without soil to feed to your livestock.
Why grow fodder?
  1. You can feed it to any livestock
  2. Saves on feed bill. One pound of seed = 5-8 pounds of fodder feed
  3. Healthy for your animals
What you need to grow fodder:
  4. A container to soak your seeds in
  5. A strainer
  6. Fodder trays. (7-10) You can buy fodder trays online or you can make your own from whatever you may have at home.Don’t let the trays be too deep as the air can’t circulate and may contribute to mold.Your trays will need to have drain holes in the bottom. You want your seeds to stay damp, but not soaking.Google fodder systems and choose your favorite trays and set-up.
    How to grow fodder:
  7. Put your seed in your soak container and add water so that you have 2” of water over the top of your seeds. If you are using wheat, you may need to rinse the seeds several times to get the glue like substance rinsed away.Wheat can mold easily if this is not rinsed well.Soak the seeds at least 5 hours but not longer than 24 hours.
  8. Use your strainer to help you rinse the seeds again.REMOVE ANY SEEDS THAT ARE FLOATING AS THESE ARE DEAD AND WON’T SPROUT AND WILL ONLY CONTRIBUTE TO MOLD.
  9. Place your seeds into your trays.Don’t have more seeds than ½” deep. The seeds will continue to swell and if your seeds are deeper than this, you may get mold.
  10. Mist your fodder at least twice a day.The goal is to keep the seeds damp.Fodder grows best in temperatures between 60-70 degrees. It does not require a lot of light.
  11. The fodder should be ready on day 7, so I make one tray a day and feed my chickens one tray a day. That keeps the cycle going.
What seeds are best to use:
*Barley
*Wheat
*BOSS - Black Oiled Sunflower Seeds
*Alfalfa

Sometimes I feel like we live parallel lives.  I also sold all the chicks I wanted to sell.  Kept 8 to grow out to see what they will be like!  Yea for us!  Now the brooder is relined with contact paper (Makes cleaning so much easier) and fresh shavings.  Waiting for new chicks to hatch this weekend!  Then I can do this all over again!  After I set these next eggs on the 13th (my son's birthday!) that will be my last hatch for a while.  I need to stop and refocus.
I have more coming Friday, too!! A very small hatch this time- nine I think- plus the four mfd that the ebay seller and I both "hope will do well".. :lau

ONE more hatch after this one: the lav orps I got on trade. They lock down around the 21 I THINK.
