YO GEORGIANS! :)

Here are the other five from that hatch.. The closest one is definitely a boy and the other four dust bathing, I'd venture to say, are girls!! (Plus an olive cockerel seeing what's up)..

I also have five more younger ones from thale same breeder in the brooder.. Two girls in that group.

But still.. I hate I lost the two and I will be on PINS/NEEDLES every day when I come home now!

A good friend who lives up the street gave me about 10lbs of organic fruit last night. Some of it is overripe so she thought the chickens would gobble it up. I'm about to go surprise them with some chopped up apricot!

Girlfriend and I just finished our first chicken coop. Anyone know where I can buy some chickens that have been taken care of properly in the Northeast Georgia (Habersham County) area?

I have room, but opossums, foxes, and hawks are bad around here. With me being gone all day (work) would you still recommend free ranging completely without being in a run during the day?
I live in Guyton Georgia I have the same problems with red fox grey fox Hawks and other predators I build a 15 by 15 coop and run no more problems

I don't know where you can get any from around there but you can look online for hatcheries in the area. or try Craigslist in your area

Let's see if I can get this in the right spot this time...I accidentally put it in the big forum not the Georgia one! I finally have the time and resources for my coop. Now I am debating stationary versus tractor. What are some suggestions from experienced chicken folk? I have no building restrictions (family farm) and we are out in the sticks, so no city ordinances to deal with. What are the pros and cons that I should consider? I'm in southeast GA, if that makes a difference.
Something to consider about tractors is that the frame just goes to the ground and animals can dig under them easily. We built our stationary coop with the hardtack going down into the earth 12 inches and then out 12 inches (like an "L") so that nothing can dig under. We also added some bars driven into the earth every 8 inches or so. Of course, we live in the north GA mountains and have bears and coyotes as well as raccoons and possums. But having a tractor as your main housing, you need to think about: Do I have dogs in the neighborhood who will dig under the frame, will raccoons and possums be able to reach in through the wire, grab a sleeping chicken by its neck and pull it thru for a treat? And other stuff like that. I see a tractor as a great daytime home. Well, that is my two cents.

I agree with you, never really gave it much thought but then a tractor to me just isn't enough room, or I'd have to build one that would take a tractor to move it then would it still be a tractor
