YO GEORGIANS! :)

On the main line coming down from the bucket ( goes straight down) I put in a needle valve, that way if I need to drain water out of the line can open this, also giving some thought not sure if it can be done, of using it for a possible way if I can figure it out to recirc water, for winter to keep from freezing. The ball valve is after the union, and may change that, but below the valve I have a 3/4 in. compression fitting that also make it easy for disassembling. Thanks for the thought on the valve placement and union. Between the valve and compression fitting I also used a male and female adapter, again for ease should I need to make changes in the nipple height or disassemble of pipe, In addition, used 3/4 in. slip x thread tees for the nipples and drilled and tapped plugs that I can screw the nipples into and also then into the tees, so in addition to being able to disassemble the nipples for cleaning I can also unscrew them for replacement 0r to flush the line, felt it would be better then trying to unscrew the nipples. Thanks for the input and feedback, it is appreciated.

the one thing I did differently, other than not putting the unions and compression fittings in, was I routed my drain outside the run so if I need to drain it, I'm not pouring all the water into the run. Mine is a 30 gallon drum though, that would make a much bigger mess. It's time for me to add some ACV to it, to maintain the cleanliness of the lines.

Ok chicken people, I have a question. Concerning roosters and hens......bahahaha. I KNOW where your mind just went
tongue2.gif

My ameraucanas are 19 weeks, 2 of the hens are 18 weeks. The leghorns are 17 weeks and the black australorps are 16 weeks old. 3 of the AM roosters are crowing, and chasing the girls. The girls however, are all like "thanks for the offer, but, ummmm, NO".....

my question is this, can the roosters sense which of the hens are closest to being ready? reason I ask is, we've seen the roosters trying to mount only the australorps. These are the youngest hens, I will say that from past experiences, I kinda sorta somewhat thought they might be the first ones to start laying anyway. So by the actions of the roosters, are they close or are my roosters just pedophiles?

I'm not sure she's squatting so much as he just jumps on her back and grabs the feathers on the back of her neck. And yeah, I know there's all kinds of hair pulling jokes that could be inserted there, but I ain't gonna

I never noticed my young AM roo do anything except be outright hateful and aggravating to any of the girls, regardless of age. But my older, discerning Brahma boy seems only to be attentive to those who are close to maturity.

In fact, lately I've noticed the two almost-there girls have gotten lots of *nice/pleasant* attention from Brahma Dad, and subsequently appeared to depart from the AM boy's flock to join Brahma Dad on the roost at night.

Really interesting...

Well I just finished installing my water nipple system for the chickens, as you can see have automatic fill from hose on outside of the run, controlled by a float in the bucket. Then PVC pipe (3/4 inch ) to four nipples with room to add another if needed. So far no dripping or any leaks and just hope all the girls and boy get use to using the nipples, a few took right to them. Anything I missed or need to change or improve on ?

Nice!!! I like it!

So apparently the girls you have, have more sense than a lot of women we read about in the paper and actually leave the young punk who don't treat them right for the guy who does .....

maybe it's just a 'young' thing and as they get older they'll settle down. I do know that I'm going to have to make some decisions and go ahead and get rid of these extra roosters, 4, (hoping to soon be 3

) for 9 hens is going to be way too much for the hens. I had thought I'd build a few separate smaller pens and rotate them for breeding, but I'm not sure I want to do all that. Getting lazy in my old age, and seriously, I'm not going to try to become a full out ameraucana breeder anyway
