I thought hawks generally don't leave a trace when they take a chicken?

Depends on if the chicken fights to get away. I saw feathers one day trailing off, then nothing. Looking in the valley across from the house, I could see something moving on the ground. Ran over to see. Scared the hawk away and there was my chicken with feathers all ripped out and most the stomach gone. So, yes, they do leave feathers.
