YO GEORGIANS! :)

I'm getting 7 eggs a day now, 4 are from my bantam/LF mixes and they are a medium size bird that is laying an egg a little bigger than a bantam(light brown) right now as they have just started. So I'm excited, my Brahama's are still young and are getting bigger every day, love those birds so docile and just don't mind being picked up at all, now for the Olives that is a different story and I got these birds from CARCAR,
Now for Pappa chick story, I had a hole in the brooder box that yes the babies found, since plugged it,but not before 3 babies made a jail break, so I found 2 (this was day before yesterday so Monday!!) and I figured between the hens/roos/cats/dogs and being out away from the heat that this baby was a goner well guess what showed up when I was checking them for the night yep came to the box wanting back in,

and so glad mostly cause it was a blue. Ok Kats story time is now over, you can resume chicken TV.
yeah I've had a couple of escape artists show themselves too! find ways OUT of the divided section of the coop but can't find their way back IN and stand there looking and chirping loudly LOL

I think it's time to build a grow out coop/pen and get the mama out of there with them, she's way messier with the food and water than the chicks are

poor little Rose! I just had to bring her inside. apparently, her saddle feathers weren't what I needed to be concerned about. I just happened to catch her lean forward to peck in the dirt, her whole bum is bald and bruised!! She looks a mess. I just brought her inside and she is in my downstairs bathroom on some fluffed up towels to keep he comfy. she seems fine, but I figured it's best to get her out of harms way. I'm not sure if it was Stanley or the fact that I noticed Blanche was pecking at everyone the other day. She was mostly tormenting Stanley but I have no idea if she's partly responsible for this. How long will it take for her feathers to grow in? Boy, are chickens brutal.

Anyone have an idea of the going rate of having a turkey slaughtered, plucked and dressed? If you were going to prep a turkey for Thanksgiving what would you charge?

in Atlanta as of two years ago turkey was going for about $5.5 to $6 per pound, that is home grown, all natural dressed for the table, I sold my turkeys dressed table ready for no less than 50 bucks, and that is really cheap. My birds were averaged 20 to 22 pounds and were broad breasted bronzes, really good yummy birds, I hope this helps, course now I didn't feed my birds the expensive feed they ate what the chickens ate, took them a little longer to get to the weight, BBB's if fed game bird feed are ready full grown at 22 weeks, for butchering figure retaining 65% weight
after butchering. I hope this helps
Toms average 25 to 30 pounds,
Hens 22 to 25 pounds
I ended up with hens, but still that was a big girl, don't think I'd want to dress a 30 pounder, it was hard enough dunking the big girls in the hot water.

Hi Folks....a little info about my birds and a question. I have 14 Buff Orpingtons pullets, 1 cockrel, 5 Black Australorp pullets, and one easter egger. They are 23 weeks old and I've gotten eggs for the past 4 days, 1 each the first 3 days and 3 today. The lighter colored egg is a ceramic regular size egg and the darker one is the size I'm getting. How long until the eggs are full size

?

you've just been getting them for the last few days? yeah give it a couple weeks, you'll start noticing them get bigger. You can expect some double yolks, some soft shells, skip a day maybe two then they'll be back laying again.

but yeah, a few weeks and you'll notice the daily eggs will start increasing a little in size
