YO GEORGIANS! :)

I am getting a little nervous. Will be going to my DD for an early Christmas. The renters who are coming in have agreed to collect eggs and feed the chickens. They just came by to let me show them what to do. Ummm, not feeling too good about the whole thing. Will probably lose some chickens. I usually lose something when I go out of town, and that is with my DH watching things. These are 'sitters' and they really have no knowledge of chickens!
I bet they will be more mindful as they will not want to be the cause of dead/missing chickens!!!

Wish you were closer...I sure need to find someone trustworthy to exchange sitting duties...we are stuck at times when we really need to go... :(

y'all check out the shell on an egg I collected earlier today. The pictures really don't do justice to how rough textured and disfigured this shell really is. The lines are actually grooves. This poor girl may need a suppository, or at least a dose of castor oil

I've had eggs like that. If I recall correctly they get thinner over time. I gave additional calcium.
At least you are getting eggs. I only have one hen laying now.
yeah I have had calcium on the side but don't right now, maybe I need to get some back in there for them. It just looks like it should have hurt coming out with the grooves in it

The truth is I don't really see the hens eating the oyster shell which I smash up into even smaller bits. I do feed them their eggshells and at one time when I kept getting shell less eggs I actually ground up my human calcium supplement and saw an obvious improvement right away. Not sure that was advisable but it worked.
