YO GEORGIANS! :)

That sux. Will you be able to salvage the posts and just restretch the wire?

We should. We've been able to do that before.
But there is one spot where the wire is broken all the way down, I guess just too much pressure on it.

The old horse is now in my front yard so he could eat in peace. UGH.
Now mud AND poo to step in.

I've talked with Kevins Chickens a few times. MIGHT go out that way on Friday, since I'm planning to go to Trion anyhow that night. I have a inverter so i can leave a light on in the truck, if I take a spare battery with me. But he has so many cool breeds. Marans, Exchequer Leghorns, Dominiques. I have to make a list, then set up another brooder, plus the one I will need when my barnyard mixes hatch (I'm waiting for the hens to lay them now).
I'm super-tempted by the leghorns :( :( Light for what??
So I found 3 leftover bags of mulch, hiding in the weeds by the giant cactus. I went ahead and spread them near the waterer in the new pen, trying to keep the muck out of the water at least. After knocking the pile down, then letting the chickens spread it a bit (and find all the bugs in it from sitting by the cactus for over a year) I realized that it would take oh, about 200 bags to cover the pen to a decent depth. What is that in pickup loads? We are hopefully going to pick up truckload #1 tomorrow, so I can at least have a muck free path thru the pen. Really REALLY hating the rain, and the fact that more is expected Monday. Did I mention the fact that I need to help reset 250' or so of fence from our flooded creek? My horse and donkeys are in the small field, and the sheep and goat are in the back yard of the mobile home next door.
Oh NO, I'm so sorry!! :(

Light for heat lamp for baby chicks while I go to the auction
If you have enough of them in a box with a lid, I bet they'd be just fine. Just put some deep shavings in. Gotta think, when you order chicks they don't have a lamp. Just my opinion though. I know we all have our preferences. :)
