YO GEORGIANS! :)

What's your incubation technique? I can't seem to keep shipped eggs going at all. I saw where someone used surgical gloves when touching all her eggs because the oils in your hands are harmful. Is that true? I touch all my eggs and my first hatch (those four eggs I got from GAM at the swap last year) was 100%.
I don't use gloves, but I do make sure to wash my hands before candling. Unless it's just chicken germs on them, lol.

I have a cabinet now so really compared to styro it's an unfair comparison.. At least with the luck *I* had with styro, anyway. I had like one run of good luck my last season with my LG. After that things went back to way south and I got fed up. Many here do a wonderful job though. I would get shipped eggs about halfway through and then they would either quit then or during lockdown.

With the styrofoam incubator you're just not going to get the same results as you will with a cabinet. That said ... the Hova Bator is a more stable, reliable styrofoam incubator than the LG.

With shipped eggs it is good to let them rest at least 24 hours. That helps air cells and slow temp change.

Yeah, I'm seeing that... Got an LG because my homemade became unstable and I needed something that was cheap and available... So the LG was the only thing I could find. I put marbles and a telentis jar full of water in there as heat sinks and it actually kept the incubator remarkably stable up until I turned it around like an idiot. >:|

I really need to invest in a cabinet...

Set it and forget it ... it really is beautiful.

Hi and oh so jelouse. I set cream legbar eggs but when candled most were not fertile and the shells were blotchy, I don't expect anything from the 4 I left in my incubator. You have my spring chick wish list Marans, legbars & LF Cochins. :drool

this is purely a TSC thing though when it comes to chicks. They don't know, they don't care. The only thing they DO know for sure, is that they don't care..........and they don't care if you and I know they know they don't care.

I think it's time for bed, that actually made sense as I was typing it AND when I read it back again.....
Its definitely a TSC, CliffB said that they got new products in for chickens, such as cups and mats. Well I can say for sure the Griffin TSC has NO new products, in fact they are not even stocking the nipple any longer, no nest boxes or anything new. Definitely TSC has management problems as well as trained people in their stores. Bottom line only look at profit, not customer satisfaction.

The TSC in Grayson has a nice Asst Mgr but it sounds like he his hamstringed by city rules. No baby chicks allowed but they had a bunch of chicken supplies despite the stores smaller size. Cliff and his crew have always seemed to go above and beyond even if If baby chick identification was not in their wheel house, they tried. Yes it would be nice to have a resident expert always on hand where ever and when ever we want but dang now that is a bit of spoiled thinking. I carry my phone which gives me access to pictures of the breeds I'm interested in. I very much look forward to the TSC swap and hope to find the babies I'm looking for this spring and hopefully nice weather for it. :jumpy

I'm hoping to find some things I'm looking for at the poultry show, if not there then the swap.

Has anyone been to the show? What can we expect to find in the way of chicks/eggs?

So I found a meme generator app; I've always wanted to have one. Hope everyone takes my first meme in the good humor intended bc I LOVE it.
