YO GEORGIANS! :)

I have turned off the cabinet, started taking stuff out of it. tomorrow is supposed to be raining, so will be a good day to start trying to figure out how to undo the mistakes the guy who build it made with it, like that big ole hole he put in it that won't let the humidity come up. I'll get some pics tomorrow of how this thing was made, I'm thinking I'm going to order a heating element from GQF and pick up a few more of the computer case fans I bought before and seal off that gaping hole in the bottom. If I can get a mount figured out for the heat element he used, I may try to utilize it on the inside of the cabinet somewhere and make it work.

Consider putting in a fuse for the heating element. Not sure what kind of element you are thinking of using.
I'm putting in a 5 amp 110v electronics fuse on mine. The total draw on the incubator isn't enough to trip a circuit breaker if something goes wrong.

Considering the risk of a fire is high if the heating element shorts out, a $5 fuse is pretty cheap insurance.

And I thought that kinda strange to have such a big hole for the fan. Small vent holes work fine for air transfer. And there's nothing wrong with opening the cabinet every day or so to add water. That lets fresh air in on a regular basis. A hen gets up daily to do her business and roll the eggs, so that's just following her example.

exactly!

I'm thinking I'm just going to order the cabinet heater set from incubator warehouse. For $25 I can have the same heat source they put in the GQF cabinets. a couple of $2 computer case fans from the local shop, some bondo to cover that gaping hole, some low expansion spray foam insulation and a couple smaller holes behind the new fans and I'll be good to go.

Gonna get started on this this evening so It's ready for next week. I'm going to do another hatch, some more of my AM eggs, some of the aussie eggs for more OE's and a dozen eggs from my daughters flock, white leghorn hens and black australorp rooster.....

oh and it's plugged into one of those fused power strip/surge protectors so any shorts will kick it off anyway

on another note.........

this hatch was better than the first two. out of 17 eggs that looked viable at lockdown candling, I had 12 total hatch. One that was pipping last night when I went to bed, got the hole through, then didn't make it. Temp was good, humidity still good, no idea why it quit.....still have 5 eggs in there, but there hasn't been any activity. It's just day 22, so I'm gonna leave them going for now.....

and a lady just left from buying all the chicks I had hatch......

if I was having better hatch rates I could have made enough selling chicks already to have paid for this other incubator.....which is why i'm not worried about buying a new heating element :) it's paid for and will pay for itself
