you know it won't hurt em to get rained on a lil, right?Questions: Is there a better way to prevent this from getting worse? Can I bandage it without drawing more negative attention that makes them go batshit & tear it off? Or without it driving him crazy?
For WEEKS I've been trying to heal it but they keep pecking the scab off. At least 3 times now. I'm cleaning it and putting blu-kote on it but it seems that's not enough. I've also been keeping the roos separated from the hens during the day. The boys get the bigger yard. This only happens when they're confined to the coop run for a bit. As in, just during the rainy part of the day. My biggest concern is risk of infection. Not to mention my handsome little man's comb looks a hot mess.

Welcome to the forum neighbor!Rome ga. Just starting out. Trying to figure out where and what kind of coop to build. Then it will be the big choice of what chickens.
My roo has that also. Do you know what it is? I almost have his cleared up by mixing white petroleum jelly and triple antibiotic ointment 50/50 and rubbing it in every other night. He doesn't seem to mind. Good luck!Questions: Is there a better way to prevent this from getting worse? Well as Paul Harvey used to say "Now for the rest of the story",![]()
My official count is 21 out of 22 very happy with that hatch
Well... One day of my beloved chicks (6-8 weeks old) has just sneezed and has a little gurgling sound....
I immediately went and mixed up some oxytetracycline and put it in the watered .... I'm very pessimistic and in al honestly assume the worse. I think if I lose these chicks to sickness that I'm going to have to call my chicken days quits...
We just built a brand new 10x10 coop.... Sigh...![]()

Hey Robo, sorry there buddy but it's been a long time since boy scouts and my knot tying just ain't what it used to be and she escaped...
You want me to just tear that check up or cash it and buy some more rope? I'll practice up a bunch in case opportunity comes round again....

Haha! Yes. I only put em up when it's a downpour or heavy shower. As for the blue kote, it'll only keep them from picking for a couple of days. Once the staining starts to wear off, they go for the edges of the scab where it turns white. It's mostly Blanche. She's big ol C. U. Next Tuesday. Just nag nag nags him & he just lets her do it. She pecks at everyone but mostly Stanley.you know it won't hurt em to get rained on a lil, right?![]()
does the blu kote keep the others from picking at him?
So there's a market for "Rent-A-Duck"???I know how you people like a happy ending. A woman left the store ****** at my cashier yesterday because we were wasting her money by "making" her buy two ducks and not letting her return them. She did only need them for Easter weekend after all.

Glad the hsband didnt see that option first! He'd have said NO. Lol Thank God he's not on FB.You joke but there is a guy on Facebook who started a company for "Rent a Chicken". He brings you a coop and 4 birds and you rent/lease with the option of owning or if you decide the chicken thing just isn't for you he will come pick up his birds and coop and you're done.
