YO GEORGIANS! :)

So, today is hatch day. There are 20 eggs in there. Two that I don't think should have gone into lockdown, but dark eggs, so I let them ride. So, really only 18 eggs that looked good. I put them in my neighbors borrowed incubator for hatching. Ugh! What a nightmare. I couldn't seem to get the humidity up. Today, hatch day, I realized the little plastic viewing cover on the right side was not in place right and was letting heat and humidity out. The crazy thing is that almost all the eggs on the right side of the incubator have either hatched or are pipping. The eggs on the left side.....well, only one hatched and one pip that has not had activity on it for hours. WTH! So, right now I have 4 chicks in there and 6 pips. 5 of the pipping ones are the Mottled Orpingtons so I am happy about that. But, what about the others on the left side???

The other weird thing is that my one good thermometer in there shows that the temp is going from 98.6 to 100.5 within minutes and then down again. Up and down, up and down. I'm not sure what to do about it! I am tempted to take the hatched chicks out and move the left side eggs over to the right side, but I know I will mess everything up in there. Ugh, I hate borrowed stuff! My friend let me borrow this one because she bought a new one (a digital one like both of mine!)

So as things go while trying to name dogs, you THINK you want to go a certain route but then it just happens.  The puppy was tearing around the house terrorizing the older dogs and GAM mentioned him being like the Tazmanian Devil.  So I started calling him Taz.  I kinda liked it.  She wasn't sure if I was serious and I told her if she messed with me I would start calling him Daffy.  And so it progressed and the conversation continued and a coin was flipped and the kids voted and there was a veto............ the dog's name is Doc.

I love it.

I wonder if it's because the hot air and humidity are passing over the right side in order to escape?

You did of course tape the break in the seal, I'm sure.

Hopefully once you have it all sorted out everyone will recover and hatch. :)

Ugh, renters just came up and asked DH to come and clean the hottub. It was drained and cleaned for them Thursday afternoon! He goes down there and finds ashes, leaves, broken glass and some other 'stuff' in there! Gross! What's wrong with people who can't respect your stuff???? And this is after they have come into our apartment three times since Thurs night to get free 'apple pie'!

AND!, then I go to check the chickens and someone has thrown tons and tons of corn husks and silks in the coop! Ugh, what a mess! Had to rake them all out and throw them away. Be glad when this group is gone!

Can't she just keep them with her?
Sure they can stay together but I'm not going to use these chicks in my flock and would like to get her back to laying as soon as possible, I have the same age chicks in a brooder already and it would be less work for us. I just don't know if it causes undue stress on the broody or the chicks.

With a temp swing that fast the eggs are probably staying at around 99.5 and if that's a little cooler than the other side they may be a little later hatching. One ° temp change in two of my hatches made a one day difference in length of time to hatch. Just a thought as I'm a rookie.

But I do have to question why "apple pie" is in quotations..... Hmmm.... :gig

Gotcha. I don't think the chicks will know a difference either way. Don't know of a way other than just doing it to get Mama back to normal; she may or she may go back to sitting, you'll just have to see I guess.

oh good! I love it! So glad he has a name! I'm sitting here, nerding out and watching Dune. Names are jumping out at me thinking about that dog!

I think the hen would maybe look for the chicks for a little, like any other mom, but the chicks being with others would IMO be fine.

I lost some chicks last night, my light/heat bulb socket went to lunch,I'm taking it back to TSC since it still has the new on it and see if they will exchange it. They were covered etc in the carport but it still got some, have some warming up inside and they have perked up nicely, thought they were too far gone, put another heat source in with the babies, well they are almost feathered out so not baby, babies. Glad I get up early to check my babies.

Holy crap. It's pretty sad when the success of an entire weekend/hatch rests on TWO EGGS.

Just two.

LOL. And I KNOW I hear peeping in there when I shine the light. The cartons keep you from being able to see the eggs jump around. :/
