YO GEORGIANS! :)

I agree with Flower, you should know in 4 days. If you still don't see any by 7 days, they are for sure not frizzle. The wing feathers grow first and those will be the first little curls you see. Once you have bantam Cochins you will want more. That is how I ended up with 250 of all colors. I had some mean roosters like any breed but they were rare. I had a solid white frizzle rooster that looked like a tiny fluffy house shoe and even though he looked like a pretty angel he was nothing but the devil.

One thing I have learned about bantams after so many years of breeding them. Do not put them in tiny cages or coops. They are small and take up less room but putting them in small contained areas will make the roosters mean. Not trying to debate, just sharing my experience and observation. Once they are mean, seems there is no changing them.

I agree about the rooster, any rooster. My thoughts are if they have lots of room and plenty of women, they are nice. My big beau has about 8,000 sq feet of run area and 30+ hens, so he is the sweetest thing. Never once has he even looked at us funny. Plus, he doesn't mind the new young roo coming up. Lots of women and space to share! (Probably a relief for him! LOL)

I also don't ever ever do anything with his girls inside the coop area. If I have to attend one of the hens, I remove her from his sight and take her into the garage to do whatever.... So, he has no reason to think I am hurting or molesting his girls. He knows I bring food and water and treats, but he doesn't see me do anything with his girls. I am, therefore, no threat or competition to him or his girls.

Speaking of being tired....the renters left yesterday and I spent all day cleaning the whole 7000 sq feet of house (cleaning sheets -over 13 sets, mostly king size, towels, floors, bathrooms, making beds, etc) so DHs friend from FL and his family could come stay with us.  I could hardly move last night by the time they got here.....AND THEN, found out my fitbit battery was dead!!!!!  I hate that!  I usually register over 17,000 steps on cleaning day and I didn't get any!  AND THEN, we got a call that our dear long time friend, Chipa Wolfe, died!  He is the one who puts on all the Indian Pow Wows in Canton every Mother's Day!  Oh my gosh, what a loss!  He is the one who had the buffalo, Thunder, if anyone has been to the pow wows.  AND THEN, I am about to crash into bed and I think about the eggs in my incubator and thought, you know, last time I candled them, they looked further along than I thought so I double checked the dates in my book and OMG, they were suppose to have gone into lockdown on Saturday!  So, I hurriedly put them into lockdown.  So tired!  AND THEN, laying in bed calculating and realize those chicks are due to hatch tomorrow (Tues)  and I'm suppose to meet my DD in downtown Atlanta and spend the night with her because she is here for a rare overnight trip!  And her plane leaves again at about 6 am on Tues.   AND THEN, I wake up today and already have a pip, which means they are going to be hatching while I am downtown staying with my daughter!   Ugh!  But, would rather be with my daughter for the few hours she will be here!  I need a break!

You need a break!!

Yeah very true. My Speckled Sussex rooster (Booga) got angry after I sold all of his hens and left him alone for a week or 2. He was getting worse so I put him with the EE hens and he is fine now. I think leaving them alone makes them angry too. They need ladies to love and protect. The more ladies, the happier they are. He will run at me trying to intimidate me when we have wire between us but when I open that door, he runs to the back. The ones to worry about are the ones that come at you when you open the door. He is probably afraid I am taking these women too. I regret doing that to him. He needs lots of ladies (nicer more gentle ladies.) These 4 are going to pluck him bald, they are not very man friendly. They go on roost first and take up all the top bar and he has to roost on the bottom by himself. He is going to live with Silver Hill and will have lots of ladies for sure. He is in the full blown chickitis stage and Booga could have 100 ladies before you know it.

Someone asked how many chickens I have yesterday and I said just 10. They asked how many chicks I have and I said not many, I added them up and I have 44. OH CRAP! How did that happen?

I was about to post some stuff for sale on Craigslist and noticed some ads that were created about 3 hours ago and there seems to be several. Some say found chickens and giving away. Some say selling for $5 and all seem really sketchy. None give a location and some do not give contact information but wanted to bring it to everyone's attention in case they see one that there are several with different chickens and to be very careful. I have a degree in Computer Science and one in Criminal Justice (Over Achiever) and I can be a little paranoid but something just doesn't seem right about these ads. Here is one:

When someone doesn't want to state where they are located that is a big red flag. When they create several ads with different chickens saying stuff like, they lay too many eggs, sounds like a trap. One even says, 2 of these 4 hens lay good eggs. What? Also they placed all of these different ads in seconds. If you reply to it they could give you a virus. If you notice sometimes you can reply to some ads and start getting crazy emails on your email that is connected to CL. I swear this world is getting more crooked everyday! The first ad seemed cool and the chicken addict in me wants those chickens, after seeing 5 of them with different chickens but similar stories, that is a big red flag.

Pretty funny - I'm fairly sure that leghorn 'hen' that isn't laying is a rooster. Probably a stock photo but still funny.

Yep ... quick Google Images search and it is a very frequently used image. Obviously not one of the bird(s) being offered.

Almost (but not quite) worth responding to find out what the scam is. I can't figure out the angle somebody has on 4 chickens - not exactly a high dollar transaction where you get someone to show up with a lot of cash.

I do agree - very shady.

Any ideas on what scam they are running?
