Not chicken related, other than in some recipes, we harvested 2 pounds of shitake mushrooms this weekend.
Started the logs last Feb and have been trying to keep them moist through the summer. Totally surprised when I saw they were ready to pick.

So, we've been eating a lot of mushrooms this weekend. Kinda like that scene from Forrest Gump: rice w/mushrroms, scrambled eggs w/mushrooms, grits & mushrooms,

@Flowerbh , @GAMarans - Assuming this hatch goes better than my last (which was a disaster - 1 of 10) - I may have a couple of extra pullets and plenty of cockerels. The rooster I hatched these from was aggressive - so keep that in mind of you want any cockerels.

I want 6 pullets for myself - so i'm going to keep them all till I can sex them then sell the rest.

I'll keep you guys posted.

I just discovered my scratch is full of weevils! Ugh! They've been getting that scratch for a while now, who knows how many weevils they've eaten! Should I be worried? Should I throw the rest out or give them what's left and let them go crazy?

Oh they have eaten worse trust me, let them eat em.

Congrats, where did you get your mushroom plugs from? What type of wood did you use and where have you put the plugged logs? I have the oak from the tree we had cut down, that would be good wood to use? Yummy
