YO GEORGIANS! :)

I wouldn't call myself a prepper but I do agree that it is important to have a basic ability to fend for yourself in the event of some unforeseen situation.

I think there are more 'preppers' on backyardherds.com and suffiecientself.com but I'm sure there must be some here too. After all livestock will be important when the SHTF and of course outhouses, composting toilets, home canning, sewing, soapmaking, gardening...
I don't consider my self to be a prep per but the only thing off your list I don't do is the out house , if it comes down to needing one I do have schovels so I think we are good .

Agreed! Think i'm just a prepper-in-training. Just learning as much as I can about canning, foraging and alternative energy/food sources. Getting my five year old into it too. She loves gardening, building and shooting (the BB gun). She even told us that we need a pig so we can have more pork in the freezer! I would but my husband's afraid to get attached...gave him an alternative...get a breeding sow so we can raise the piglets for meat and he can hang out with her all day...didn't go over so well...

Definitely need to have the mindset straight between pets and food.

Absolutely!!! Roosters, no problem whatsoever! We're all attached to most of the hens and I mentioned yesterday there will come a time in 2-3 years that we really will need to decide if the girls are pets or food. He didn't want to talk about that at all...I think Betty will stay for life and most of the others will probably end up in jars. He won't like it, I'm sure. Although, we plan to get more Black Stars or Barred Rock hens...we may end up with a ton of pets and some Cornish Cross meat birds...who knows.

So GAM started a new program yesterday. She calls it Cats for Ducks. Her first sucker.... er.. I mean customer was Katsdar. She got two kittens out of the deal. If there are any additional patsies... er I mean interested parties contact us and we will gladly set you up with a couple of kittens in exchange for ducks and/or chickens. K thanks.
Your just up set that they like me better and I got your favorite ones, lol they are such sweet, pretty babies. Sassy is a pill she likes to ride on my shoulders and Sally is just content to sit in your lap and get loving.

When it's raining or 25 degrees outside and the wind is blowing, I bet you will wish you had an outhouse.

I have Thomas the turkey, such a sweet boy and he sure will be good come thanksgiving. I know he is food and it helps that he is a broad breasted so they are a meet bird and so they won't live too long. So you get your CC's and it helps to know you either process them or loose the meat,

How about if I give you a chicken will you take 2 kittens with it????

So the fall processing has started with culling older layers and young cockerels. After years of working off of the top of a drum and the picnic table I finally got the setup going. Makes it so much easier.

Great set up you've got there. Too bad you can't get your visitors to be of any help. haha
