YO GEORGIANS! :)

Story time with Kat

A friend at my church hatches turkeys, anyway one died so he tied it up in a bag with another poult that didn't' make it and threw it in the back of his truck, his wife goes out side and says why did you through a live turkey away? Husband: I didn't, and he goes to see that the poult is alive,
I now have Lazarus he didn't want the resurrection turkey, am I missing something? The poult is doing just fine

Wow!!

I wish I had known. I live 15min from there. The class sounds eggciting
Hey Jenn. UGA Extension Service offers the GA Egg Candling class in Griffin regularly, so just keep an eye on the Dept of AG website for the next class (http://agr.georgia.gov/egg-candling-class.aspx). It's free, and it VERY easy. There was a video and then a 20-question test in which ALL answers were provided. We got a cheap hot lunch at the Spaulding Co. Senior Center, and then went back to class to candle eggs. Each person had to candle 100 eggs and grade them (AA, A, B, CK [cracked], etc.). It got boring after the first 20 eggs, but it was still fun, and we met some nice people. Most were people who had small farms and wanted to sell their eggs at farmer's markets and such. One lady brought in a FBCM egg, and it was nearly impossible to grade that egg. Anyway, it was a fun day, except for the rain.

Any suggestions on a good waterproof sealant for my coop roof. I cannot afford to spend a lot. just want it to work.
What kind of roof/roofing material?

Putting plywood on top of the frame, then waterproof then lay tin over that, will be using clear caulk to fill in nail holes on the tin

Lisa and I are going to the GA Egg class in Griffin tomorrow. I'll let ya'll know if it ends up being all it's cracked up to be....and if we pass..lol
you'll pass, because they don't let anyone NOT pass. Pay attention during the 'lecture' and answer as many of the questions on the test during the lecture as you can. When I went, it was open book, and you could even help or get help the person next to you. Then you get a 'partner' and you go candle a few dozen eggs. One of you will candle half of them, and you both write down what the 'candler' thinks it is, then you switch. You can discuss it, but ultimately the person who's doing the 'candling' for that egg has final say. I'd say good luck, but you really don't need it, LOL

ok, so here's why I crossed my ameraucana rooster and the welsummer hens. Dark green eggs with brown spots

There's no need to waterproof the plywood if you're using it underneath a tin roof. That's overkill. You can use a simple underlayment product (scrap) that's cheap, easy to install, and will last longer, or you can forego using anything at all. If it were me, I would just screw or nail the tin to the plywood (or to purlins) using padded roofing screws or nails. The point of vulnerability/deterioration is going to be in the roof penetrations, so that is where you should focus IMHO.
