YO GEORGIANS! :)

I came home to a total of EIGHTEEN chicks! That's a great percentage for my juryrigged little giant incubator, with still more pipped and peeping!

@Lady Who the two tiny hen chicks Are adorable! It looks like the LO quit though. :(

@Flowerbh any idea what a chick from the dark olive egg should look like? It hatched while I wasn't home and I really would like to keep that one.

I'm so jealous of all your hatching!!! I'm a little over half way there and cannot wait!!! We got a lot accomplished on the coop this weekend--The rafters are up, and all hardware cloth is in. I moved the hoop coop to a new location because it was the only way to do a thorough clean up.

Side note---what do y'all like to line your coops with? Wood shavings? Sand? Straw? I'd love to know!!!

all this silkie talk is making me want one!!

thankful for a couple of dry, sunny days here. planning on weighing and doing some candling with cocktails tonight. I swear, if someone had told me 20 years ago that a good night would be playing with chicken eggs, I'd never have believed them!!

I have some silkies if you want one. :)

How are your hatchings going from the BBQ? I HAVE 22 out already! Lots more pipping!
Did any of you who wanted NNs get them? I got one besides the showgirl!

Mine are due to hatch tomorrow. I have one brown one with cursive writing on the end that has pipped and is peeping. I have 10 in lockdown, but I'm pretty sure the bantam americauna has died. :( Hopefully I'll be surprised.

I've been working at a camp this past week, so fallen behind on messages. Did anyone get any of the showgirl/silkies or the two cream legbars I brought to hatch? I just wrote what they were on them, not my name. I'll be at camp all day tomorrow again so I will probably miss mine hatching. Hopefully you all can help me figure out what breeds they are.

I probably will!!! What colors?? Also I want to get together with you soon if you still have a CL pullet. I will have some on the 23rd if you want one to drop a crested in your gene pool.

On a funny note, moved the hoop coop & completely confused my birds. This ended up as a big chicken chasing mission. I'm exhausted!!!

I think I only have black or white ones right now. My older hens and roosters (the roosters are showgirls) are black and white, but they sometimes have different colored babies. I got a pretty grey one once and I have a brown one now that I know is a pullet, so I'm keeping her. I get some silvery colored ones too. They aren't all separated by colors, so if you want one that you know what color it's going to give you, these probably aren't the ones you want. Lol. I do mostly get black and white though. I haven't checked out the other ones to see which are boys and girls, but I'll try to find a girl for you. I adore silkies.

When I move my turkey tractor, I just push it around with the turkeys in it. They fuss for a minute, until they realize they have fresh grass.

Lisa and I were at Flowers's homestead this afternoon, and she offered Lisa the showgirls, and naturally Lisa was quick you say, "Yes!!" When we were driving up there, I asked Lisa to not bring back any birds. Well, we ended up dropping off two and bringing back four! :th. That chicken math gets us every time! In all fairness though, the showgirls were too cute to pass up. One is dark and one is fluffy yellow with a black neck. They are the smallest Silkie chicks we have ever seen, and we have hatched a lot of them. I hope they're going to be okay because the traffic was terrible on the return trip home (lots of accidents), so an 1hr 45min trip took almost 3 hours. I don't like having chicks away from a direct heat source for that long. We're going to be watching them VERY closely for the next couple of days. We definitely don't want to lose them.

BTW, we got the grande tour of the new Bear Ridge Lodge goat mansion. Flower and Randy did an excellent job! I don't know how they got so much accomplished in the rain in so little time, and the goats were adorable! We got to feed them sassafras leaves. It was like being at a petting zoo!

For me, it is wood shavings or sawdust but I like to leave an area for sand so they can do their sand-bathing.
