Lost a duck today. Best I can figure is a copperhead must have bitten her leg. She was fine this morning, came limping up, saw she had a swollen bad place on her leg and within minutes she was dead. So sad.

I'll be processing a bunch this Saturday if you want to come see it first hand.I have determined that I can get one more incubator on my sideboard that will hold 56 eggs. Have to hold off on the cabinet until our addition is complete lest I become a single lady.
ETA: I wish I had thought to ask you about quail keeping. I would've loved to see your set up.
What?? That's a strange recommendation. As long as chickens have shade and access to fresh water, they should be fine in hot weather. I also provide a fan for indoor ventilation where needed. Other than that, it's business as usual.Ok y'all ...question...my girls love scratch, but I read where it's not recommended during hot weather. What would y'all suggest for something to throw out in place of that?

The article said corn/scratch but I was thinking that, I get high quality scratch that is mostly oats and grain with some cornNever heard of scratch being an issue in the heat. Corn can be a problem but not seeds/grains. Maybe the scratch products with large percentage of corn is what was being referred to.
I don't give scratch during the summer because I've always heard it heats them up by being slow to digest or something along those lines. I give black oil sunflower seeds and fruit, like watermelon, strawberries, figs, or pears. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I do it.Ok y'all ...question...my girls love scratch, but I read where it's not recommended during hot weather.
