@livhatcher @brucifer how are them babies coming along??
Copacetic. No news is good news.

Aside from possibly moving out one Chocolate Orpington cockerels and one FBCM cockerels, everything stays, and that's a nice feeling. However, by September I'll need to get a Muscovy pen built, so I there's always something to do around here.

The Showgirls a growing like weeds and getting cuter by the day. I watched them playing the cluck-cluck chase game a couple of days ago. It was too funny.

Do you have a pic of the showgirls? Might be able to tell what they are.

And as for getting the pekins fast, that was slow for me. Lol. Normally I'm like, I want that, and then get it later that day. But pekins are apparently hard to find around here. Had to drive an hour away for them. I had an extra pen that always floods in the heavy rain so figure it'll be perfect for them.

What about the eggs??
Ayam Cemani and Silkie eggs still have a few days before first candling.
Muscovy eggs had no clears and will get their second (final) candling in about a week.
Orpington eggs also had no clears and will get their second (final) candling in a few days.

I suspect that we'll lose at least one Muscovy egg to bacteria, but I'll be surprised if there are not a few quitters with 82 eggs set. Muscovy are so hard to hatch, however, that I'll be happy as a clam if we get 15 ducklings.

Also, we no long assist chicks/ducklings struggling to hatch. Too many that we have assisted have problems, so we've decided to let nature take its course in the future.

I'll try to get some photos to post in just a bit.

As for acquiring Pekins, isn't there a local park or lake nearby? Anyway, sounds like you have the perfect spot of them. Are you planning on growing them as meat birds?

Dang, why didn't I think of that? I always tell my sister to snag some of those Muscovy chicks that are running around her apartment and sell them on craigslist. Didn't think to catch some pekins. Lol. And I'll raise their offspring for meat.
