You need to keep looking if you want to avoid soy or soy meal. Tucker's NC Starter is loaded with it. Also, wheat is digested VERY slowly and not recommended for chicks, and it's the first listed ingredient. The second ingredient (powdered corn meal) isn't much better.

NC Layer is soy free and a better product, but I bet it's pricey.

I already have emailed them to clarify. Their other feeds labeled soy free do not have that on the downloadable PDF via their website. I very much doubt that a company would go out of their way to re-brand & tout themselves as soy free if they weren't. The amount of liability they'd open themselves up for is untold. Of course, I could be wrong.

you don't have to have a farm to do that, I had only 2 lots for 5 years, and had my chickens, huge garden, whatever i had room for, we just got 4 more lots, so thankfully i have more room now.

Just curious. Which of the TM poultry/chicken feeds are labeled "soy free"? TM's Nature's Crest line is touted to be non-GMO, but I don't see "soy-free" anywhere in the literature/advertising. However, the NC Layer product is soy free and labeled as such:

Also, many companies use non-GMO in their advertising, but that is a very difficult claim to actually support these days because so many grains have been cross-contaminated with GMO grains over the years. It's a sad commentary, but the genie is out of the bottle, and things will only get worse.

Good catch! The one place where they do advertise "no soy" is on the sack itself, the same bag where they list soybean meal as an ingredient! LOL! Yup! That is bad!

I'm sure they'll appreciate being notified, and I hope they do something about it.

ETA: This is just one more reason why I prefer to formulate my own feeds. You really don't really know what a feed company is putting into their blends, and they certainly don't tell you the full story.

BTW, they advertise diatomaceous earth in their NC product line "for natural parasite protection," but that's not how it's being used. Depending one which product you use, diatomaceous earth is being used as a dissicant to keep the crumbles or grains from sticking together. Lots of markting/sales hype here. I'm not impressed.

Feels weird not having any incubating eggs, chicks, or chickens in the house. I don't remember the last time the house has been chicken free. Maybe I should chicknap one of my cochins and practice bathing it for the show.

I called the mill today and talked to a really nice girl there. When I explained how the picture on the website didn't match up with the text she laughed out loud and said it was totally her fault---she had put a rabbit feed's nutritional information on the new Nature Crest branding for the chick starter and grower. I really liked that she totally owned the error and said that she would take steps to have the correct one uploaded by tomorrow. Anyway, I think their intentions are good and I respect that she didn't try to pass the buck or make an excuse. We need more of that in this world, IMO. There's too much ratcheting up of rhetoric and slamming people/companies without giving them a chance to make a correction. I'm still really happy with the Purina non-medicated starter grower I've been using (family friends produce grain for our closest operation so I feel some allegiance), but I am going to give TM a try. The local feed store could use the business and it will cut my bill substantially if it works out.
