YO GEORGIANS! :)

It's a great day--6/10 eggs have pipped! Come on, kiddos!!

OMG! I miss hatching soooo much! But, even after I have sold 9 older hens, I still have 67 chickens! I did a count....I have 35 still too young to lay, 5 roosters, 9 ex-broodies still not laying again yet, still have maybe 3 that are over 4+ years old, and the rest are taking turns laying my 13-18 eggs a day.

Hope all went well with the hatch! I have one Isabell Cuckoo Orpington I hatched in January who is still not laying yet! Neither are any of the Brahmas I hatched at the same time. They are just so slow to mature!

Watched my first episode of Coop Dreams this morning. I don't think it is a very popular show here in Augusta but can see why us BYC ers would like it. Out of the people I know here in Augusta who have chickens they don't have much interest in there chickens health insues. Most are Islanders and they keep them cooped in small places and use them for eggs and meet. The health and wellbeing of there flocks aren't that important. Anyway I liked the show and will watch it when I can.

My back is bothering me a lot today gonna try to take it easy. Exterminator are.going to my mom's.house today to treat for bed bugs. So expensive. Several of us are chipping in to pay for it. We've spent the last week cleaning as much as we could and sprayed and fogged but she still had them. Hopefully the exterminator will take care of the rest.

If you watch the very first season, first episode, you would see Brad's wife sitting at the table with a towel over her head. She did not want to be part of the show. When Brad tells her he wants chickens, she starts screaming and telling him she did not want any stinky, smelly chickens! She storms down the hall with the towel still over her face, slams her bedroom door and then reopens it and yells again that they are NOT getting chickens! Then slams the door again! (The show is not scripted) Very funny.

Well I've spent the last 2 days killing myself and my helper, taking down my cousin's poultry pens, tin, 2x4's 4x4's, hog wire, chicken wire, you name it. I got 2 16ft trailer loads worth...I'm exausted. We had to take it all down, piece by piece...3 pens, I'll post a photo of one side...

Ugh! I'm exhausted just reading about all you did! That's a lot of work! Go get some rest!

Sold out of my 12 dozen eggs at Farmers Market today in 1 1/2 hours! Yay! Next week they are going to have an Ice cream social to celebrate Farmers Market Day!

The bad thing about all this, is that my 35 chickens not laying yet will probably start laying after Farmers Market quits for the season! Ugh,,,,,then what do I do with all those eggs? Good thing my neighbor has a food harvester dehydrator....she can make powdered eggs! She works the dehydrator, I supply the eggs and I split it 50-50. I'll do that any day!

Lisa's done it again! A new surprise! She informed me this morning that she's made an appointment to be shown a property this Monday.

I like our present little homestead. We bought this place either 11 or 12 years, and we've had great neighbors who were friendly, loved chickens, didn't have problem dogs, looked out for us as we did for them, and who minded their own business. Unfortunately, our neighbor who was to the right of us passed away a couple of months ago, and that set the dominoes in motion. That property may be turning into a rental, and the neighbor who was on left of us (and who was kin to my neighbor on the right) sold their property last week, so Lisa has decided that she wants to leave too, and she wants to get a property further out in the country with more land.

As it is with most couples when a major decision like this is to made, we've discussed the pros and cons of moving from our present location; however, we hadn't made a mutual decision to go forward with a move. Well, I guess Lisa has! LOL!

We already live in a semi-rural area, but Lisa wants to live in an even more rural setting. God only knows how things will turn out Monday, but I know that when Lisa gets her mind set on something, it happens. It's one of the qualities I love about her even though dealing with it can be a real adventure at times. When I think about my shop, our chickens, and all the fencing Christopher and I ran this summer, I really wonder if a move is worth it, but if it makes Lisa happy, it is.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Moving from a homestead is a big undertaking. My sister and her husband who lives in Athens and has a 100 acers of land are going.to sell it and move to Seattle Washington because he got a better job offer.. She is taking all her animals with her. Cats dogs.goats some of her chickens. They just started a flock of Icelandics. They just built a house last year. They are afraid they will lose money on it at this point. I don't know what there asking. If I could I would buy it from them.

Lisa and I have made a couple of moves together, but it's been awhile.

I have a brother who lives in Seattle and a sister who used to live there. She lives in Reno, NV now. Seattle is a beautiful area, but it's getting kind of crowded, and real estate is very high. Hope your sis and BIL can find a place that suits them.

This is just the first property in which she's seriously interested, so we'll just have to see what unfolds and if it's meant to be. A few others have appointments to view it Monday as well, so we're not going in with unrealistic expectations. Besides, we each have our own checklist of must-haves and deal killers. I'll let you know how this one goes.
