Agreed at this point in any gene line I would bet everything you wouldn’t find a “pure breed” anything. You are now breeding for a certain look, demeanor, or character.Don’t tell anyone but probably all the chickens people are so quick to judge as “not being pure” probably aren’t “pure” . I don’t know anyone testing chicken genetics for breed purity. They might not meet the SOP but that doesn’t mean they aren’t “pure” and definitely doesn’t make the
pure if they meet the SOP
I bred and showed dogs for many years. Tons of breeders spend thousands if not tens of thousands to produce a dog that is a perfect example of the SOP / or breed standard. More of the littler is either borderline or doesn’t meet the breed standard ..... and that with multi generation pedigrees. So we all probably have mutts
It raises my hackles when someone post a picture of their bird and the first unsolicited response is ..... “that’s not a pure bred”
