YO GEORGIANS! :)

Hello to all, Cinders, you must be the official welcoming committee. Very sweet! Thanks for that.

I bought 12 Easter Egger chicks in June from a guy in Villa Rica. Supposedly sexed for 10 pullets, 2 cockerels. Well, one died :( but the rest are healthy and happy...and seven of the 11 are crowing!!! So, only have 4 little pullets. They are sweet, though and will soon have some chickens in the freezer and will wait for spring for some more chicks. I don't want to have to worry about keeping the babies warm. Hopefully in the next month or two will have some eggs from my 4 girls.

Well, I just thought I would try and maybe jump start all us Georgians to get back yacking again. Oh no 7 crowing that's got to be soooo loud. I don't know if I could ever kill a chicken and then clean and pluck it. I mean if I was starving because there was no food I probably would learn, lol. So in the next month or 2 you are getting some shipped eggs or you think your pullets will start laying?

I am in Thomasville, SW Georgia, I have some chicks up for sale until next Saturday, the local chicken auction.

Hi folks! I posted a while ago about moving to SE coastal GA, and now my time has come.....I start the drive from AZ to GA tomorrow morning!!

DH is following later with all of our chickens (hopefully) although we don't know how we're going to actually transport them since I'm taking the SUV with my stuff in it...he has a small Chevy. Hmm.

I don't think the moving company moves poultry...not that I would trust them to move our Ladies anyway.... any ideas?

As far as the drive itself for me tomorrow, I'm still torn between I-40, I-10 & 1-20, or I-10 all the way??? Has anyone driven any of these routes/have a preference??

I'm not much help in the area of directions, but I do hope & pray that you and your family have a safe trip.

It has been several years, but we took I-10....not sure if there is any damage to it though where Isaac blew through Lousiana a few weeks ago. You might want to check on that.

Thanks folks for the thoughts, prayers and advice! I will take it all in, and try not to go too nuts on this long drive

I hope you all don't think I'm crazy, but I am gonna miss my fuzzy butts so much.....we've got 22, including 2 friendly serama roosters....I kept taking breaks and picking them all up and loving on 'em as I was packing. Ninja (my profile pic) still thinks she's a person and is totally imprinted on me after being an 'oops' hatchling that hatched out into my hand without any nest mates.....I keep thinking maybe I can sneak her in my car.

. We moved to Covington, GA 17 years ago. It's been a long time but I believe we drove I-10 all the way. Where are you moving to? Cindy

I also remember it being a reallllyyyy long drive. We took 3 days I believe and we drove our own car and the largest moving truck we could rent with trailer. My parents helped so that was nice. It is going to be a shocker for you to move from dry to humid but I love all the green and being able to garden and have the chickens. It's our home state now even though I lived in AZ since I was a 1 year old. Drive safe and we can't wait to hear of your traveling chicken tales!
